Innocence Lost

Wrapped in a blanket of love
on a dark stormy night
our innocence stands in the way
like a locked door without a key

our halos crash into each other
like bumper cars at an amusement park

we whisper softly to each other
sweet words of love and kindness
reveling in the nectar
of our newborn feelings

the passion hangs thickly over our heads
like the sword of Damocles
just waiting to fall
and to crush our innocence
once and for all

to smash it into tiny pieces
and to scatter those pieces to the winds
where we can grab only a little bit back
only one tiny piece at a time

but never the wholeness of it
never again
for as our halos fade away
we leave our innocence behind

I liked this-it's pretty and brings a definite picture to mind. Of course, I'm totally innocent, so what would I know?

I know you won't believe this, Larry...
but this was written about David and me.
I was innocent because I had been married almost all my adult life...and as it turned out, he was fairly innocent.......for a guy!
