I was like her once, with the same dreams,
marching for peace and unity.
I felt the pangs inside my body,
the constant ache of needing change,
and sharing all those same feelings.

I was going to make a difference
writing of war, peace, karma, and religions.
So strong yet fragile enough that
I felt some days a snowflake could kill me.

I too was pre-ordained to save
the world from itself.
Just as her stairway is built
on whispered wind, her mind's eye,
like mine, creates an optical illusion of
that perfect world, our world.

So effervescent, so alive,
such beauty illuminates from her eyes.
She is a great weaver of words of love,
making every single noun, verb, and
adjective count for something.
A pure soul somehow in a maze,
lost in space and time.

Her young heart too is so untouched
by reality and the stings of life.
She writes of perfect unicorns, angels,
and songs to sing from her very soul.
She too looks so angelic at first glance,
but take a much deeper look,
for there are so many intricate
layers as to the why of her.

She is on a journey unknown
and her destination is endless.
Just as I was a flower child in my time,
she is a vine seeking the pinnacle,
never ending curiosity her steps
to reach the highest peak of wisdom.

I didn’t see any difference between us,
Until a mirror’s reflection manifested.
There was a woman in the fall of her winter,
and she is but in the spring of her summer.

Yes, that was then, and this is now!
So I enjoy watching her muse running wild,
spewing words of love, unity, and peace.
She has the same dreams of fantasy,
for without dreams you are not living.

Instead of holding up a peace sign,
her poetry is her journey,
and all she wants is someone to read it.
So I make time to read, comment,
giving her room to grow
for she is the piper to some reason.

I smile knowing she is stuck in the 70's!
and realize that 30 years later
I am reading of a girl that is so like me
and thinks all that glitters is gold,
And she too is buying a stairway to heaven.

~*This one is for all Regina especially ~*~
but also for all the other young poets I read in Teen and Dark Poetry
~* bless you and keep on writing *~

Here is the link to read the lyrics, and hear the song, "Stairway To Heaven" which I think was the greatest rock and roll tune of all time by Led Zepplin.  Now, it's not rap but give it a listen.

Wow, an I relate to this! And Sharon, you do make a difference. You always share much warmth and friendship.
The poem is beautiful, and so is the young lady in the photo. Thank you for sharing.

Well thank the three of you for seeing this one before it slipped through the cracks, and this started with a young person knot knowing the song, etc. etc. so hence this was done for them.  Thanks again.

her poetry is her journey,
and all she wants is someone to read it.

That applies to so many of us... whatever our ages. *S* This is beautiful, Mysteria... what a terrific encouragement!!

From one flower child to another, Sharon...may peace be with you.  Todays teens are so different and yet so much the same as we were......I promise, I will go to that forum and read their poetry.

Beautifully written.....and I agree that Stairway is the VERY best!
