Before you came into my life, I was but a mere caterpillar
Protected by silk woven lace
Enclosed in my private space was the only place I found peace
Until I was met by your love and beautiful grace

Inside my silken hideaway, I hid hoping to heal
Burned from past loves, I was but a mere shell of the former me
Scared to try again, I was afraid once again it wouldn't be real
I had convinced myself, that this was for the best, here I would stay for eternity

Then you came along, unlike any other person I've ever known
You showed me how true love could be; you went at my pace, nice and slow
Slowly I noticed changes inside my warm secure home; it seemed love had grown
How could this be though? I had kept myself a secret, so how could someone know

You wouldn't accept no for an answer, showing me everyday that you cared
At first I wanted to fight you, my scars too ugly for you to see
But then slowly I felt something stirring, I felt my heart opening and beginning to share
Was this love I had found...I wasn't sure, I just knew I never felt so free

Then I felt my cocoon begin to open some more, and a strange sensation
My wings began to expand, but how could this be?
I felt my heart quicken with sudden anticipation
As I felt the first stirrings of love beginning to enter me

Patiently you waited by my side, never once did you turn your back or give up on me
You turned the skies that had become blackened into those of cornflower blue
I felt my wings strengthen and begin to flutter, light and free
That's when I realized beyond any doubt, I had fallen in love with you

Thank you is inadequate for the happiness to my life you bring
Your love is something like pure magic; it's something I sometimes have to pinch myself to believe
You fill me with a love and joy I've never known...you make my heart sing
This is beyond my wildest dreams, or anything I could have conceived

I smile as I think of you my Angel, and let out a loving sigh
Thank you for helping to open the soul of a butterfly

So many times I sit on the phone talking to your Mom
When I hear your squeal of delight
You have the cutest laugh I've ever heard
You fill our life with joy and light

Now you do try her patience
This we all know is true
But you are so blessed little one
We all love you

Though I could never be your Mom
Not in any true sense of the word you see
I still love you very much
You are so precious to me

I hope that you understand this union
That me and your Mother share
We love each other very much
And for you we will always care

I can't wait to be a part of your family
Always wanted a little girl, but you are more wonderful than my wildest dreams
As you sarcastically speak your mind
Only four years old, as you let out your high pitched screams

I just want you to know
That you are an angel sent from above
And as long as I am nearby you and your Mom
You will always be surrounded with love.
