There's a place for alcoholics where they can find relief,
Another place for addicts which will help them handle grief.
Hell, even smokers have one, too. So what I'd like to know....
Where's Lonely Hearts Anonymous for lonely folks to go?

We'd hire a little meeting room. It wouldn't take much dough,
Invite unfortunates like me who loved then watched love go.
Some kool-aid in a paper cup or maybe some cheap wine,
A table for a podium would work out real fine.

Our names would be called, one by one, to come up front and speak.
We'd look out at the faces knowing we were not unique,
And with this simple introduction, we would then begin,
"I'm (so and so). I'm lonely. I could really use a friend."

Then, after we were finished, we would shake each hand and smile.
Strong feelings of comraderie would last a little while
And, though it just be temporary, it would ease the pain
Until the time arrived for us to meet there once again.

There are so many lonely souls - all those who loved and lost,
Who took a chance on happiness and paid the final cost.
They only want someone to know them, take a peek within,
To see their decent qualities that lie beneath the skin.

They have so much to offer. They have sterling qualities.
Why can't someone just recognize their willingness to please?
Yet, all too often, they are marks to take advantage of
When all they really need is someone who'll accept their love.

Someone to make them laugh out loud, to make them beam with joy,
Someone to offer happiness that they can both enjoy,
Someone to soothe with tender words when they are feeling down,
Someone to make them feel worth whenever they're around.

So, hey! We should get organized - the millions of us who
Are needful of that special friend to help to pull us through.
Then, one by one, defiantly our message we will send,
"I'm (so and so). I'm lonely. I could really use a friend."

Balladeer...

I really enjoyed this. I can totally relate to it, I've had my heart broken a couple of times, and I really felt I needed someone to talk to who knew where I was coming from. I especially like the last line... "I'm (so and so). I'm lonely. I could really use a friend."

Oh Michael..what a grand idea.
You know...you are the best story teller,
but this one...well, it is kinda special...
shows your compassionate nature.
Love it!  Hugs.

Baladeer I just chuckled through the begining but then it did get kind of sad, to think there are so many people out there needing friendship. And what a clever idea, I mean they have diet meetings and alcoholics have theirs so why not, the club of the lonely hearts...I love this, it is so neet. floria

Then someone, to keep from feeling blue
well, he would tell a poem or two,
and before you know it, all come to hear
the poetry of the Splendiferous Balladeer!

’Deer dearest heart, this is utterly utterly wonderful, and I love it The trollop will be over tomorrow, but I’m reading it to her right at this minute There’s complete awed silence, Now I know how to shut her up That should be a useful little trick. When she was a babe it was rose hip syrup, as a toddler it was bananas, as a teenager it was George Michael, and now it’s ‘Deer.

This is utterly fabulous writing, she’s now talking nineteen to the dozen, awed silence didn’t last long did it? She says to tell you that this is perfection, well you know that, Krissy darling tell him tomorrow Where was I? Yes this is absolutely fabulous writing I love it as I always do. The story is excellent, the flow and the pace perfect, meter absolutely spot on. This is utterly utterly wonderful, and a keeper for sure

Hold on to your seats when the whirlwind arrives tomorrow, And may the Lord have mercy on my soul when she reads this

Choice words, excellently chosen.
not a hair out of place here

lol Great work, 'deer. Line 4 of verse 2 might be a bit smoother with really, rather than real, but the poem is great. No offense.

Noah...thank you and, yes, you have found many friends here. I'm pleased to be one of them...

Bec...glad you liked it. We all have those times that a friendly ear is worth it's weight in gold.

Madame C..thank you! You'll never be lonely - you've got ME!!!

Enchantress...I'm glad you think it's special....so are you!

floria...why not indeed? Thank you for the neet!!

Sunshine..that's my first splendiferous!! Thank you!!!!

mushy..you call your flesh and blood a trollop? LOL! How I would love to have a camera in that household! hehe...thank you, sweet lady!

Duncan...of course not! Your loneliness is well documented!

Melissa...you're on another list...my wish list

ShadowRider...I thank you, Jeff, for your kind words..

Gunslinger..never an offence with you, sir. I value your comments. I think it's a question of locale. As you know, I'm kind of a stickler for syllable count and meter. Around here, in our Florida drawl, real has two syllables..REal. REalLY would have three..and throw off the meter. I can also see where, if you say real as one syllable and really as two, then your suggestion would be on the money. I'm a victim of my drawl. Thanks for your input..

Michael,

I enjoyed this. Sadly it is very true.
You can add my name to the list as well.  Friends are something you can never have to many off And I'm more than willing to give my time to such a worthy cause

Yanno... it's terrible when you leave me torn between embarrassment at being described in such detail and rapt admiration for the poem (and the poet *G*) doing the describing. *G*

Let me know time, location, etc of the first meeting... until then, I'll be cuddling my cats like a proper old maid. *G*

Wonderful work, Deer.

’Deer dearest heart getting my reply in again before the trollop takes over, she’s here champing at the bit. Of course I call her trollop, it’s a term of affection Ouch, now she’s beating me up gently of course, I am her beloved mum.

Yes I’m sure you’d love to view us together it would be very entertaining, like a slapstick comedy.

Sorry I simply couldn’t resist I had to write a poetic reply

You asked for someone to be there to be a new-found friend
Someone who values you and will stick there till the end
You want a friendly someone to stop you feeling sad and blue
I might be wrong but I think I might have found a friend for you

Someone to laugh out loud who'll wear that special smile
Someone who is content to stroll with you walking mile by mile
Someone soft and gentle whose touch is sure to warm you through
Someone who is lonely but would love a friend like you

You seek a certain someone who'll draw you in heart and soul
Someone who is special and prepared to make you whole
There's someone quite close who fits the criteria like a glove
A friend you have already whose nature it is to love

There's no need to be lonely there's friends just everywhere
And if you give them half a chance they'll show you that they care
All it takes is a little sign for their warmth to shine on through
Just flash a small smile at them and they'll be there for you

Marsha

Okay now I’ll hand the computer over to Krissy who can no doubt run amuck and write some cheerful comments as is her wont.

’Deer Hi there, please excuse me while I put mum in her place Thanks mum, much obliged I’m sure, it’s a good job I love you that’s all. Otherwise I might just have to get myself a replacement mum at the second-hand mum shop. Sorry about the brief interruption As I was about to say I think this is totally awesome, can I come to this meeting, it would be like a buffet I could pick myself a live one. Rather like going to a self-service restaurant, I’d like mine like a cuppa please hot strong and extra sweet.

As for the writing it is extremely well written the phrases perfectly measured in tempo and meter. No one could ever say of you as they did of Lord Patrick Robertson he broke the laws of God and man and metre Excellent writing, from a pen that simply is inspired. Well done Sir ‘Deer you really are the bees knees

Thank you Mr Balladeer you have made my day. Did you notice mum it has my name there? Of course she noticed, my trick I think mum, that puts me two ahead.

Please, add me to the list!

This poem is exceptional in every way.  Loved the theme, the flow of thought.  Loved reading the responses above.  I'm new to Passions, but I'm finding that it's the right place for us lonely ink addicts, not seeking a cure but seeking kindred spirits with ink in their veins.

Thank you for putting this into words.  I think that you said it for everyone.

This is such a touchingly tender piece Michael. I am picturing that meeting room of shy souls, who suddenly light realizing they are not the only ones. Okay, what time does the meeting start???

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?
