Silence is not golden.
I remember being told long ago,
that silence is golden.
I did not believe it then,
and I still do not believe it.
Silence is just silence.
It is not golden,
nor is it tarnished.
Sometimes
it is just
silence.
Yet it can
be more
deafening than
a thousand loud screams
in the darkest of nights.
It can be overwhelming.
It can be frightening.
It can be comforting.
It can be scary.
Sometimes though,
it is just
silence.
But the imagination
fills in all the blanks,
and the blanks may not be real.
Sometimes silence
is just
silence.
Nothing more,
nothing less.
What a scary thought.
Yet maybe more comforting
to know that it is so....
that maybe it means nothing
more than what it is.
Silence.

I had to repost this one, as a reminder to myself not to "fill in all the blanks" with imaginary thoughts. Sometimes, all it takes is a phone call, to find the true answer to the proverbial Q, "What's happening?"  I learned this lesson again, this week.

Funny...I learned that lesson, too recently.  To ask rather than imagine.  I'm glad you liked the answer you got, Kacy.

And sheesh, you managed to do something NO one has ever done before and that was fill in all my blanks with your worry too   Well now, I think we both learned a lesson this time, when someone says, "don't worry" maybe that is what we will do?  LOL, it is funny after the fact now.  Liked the poem how appropriate was this after this weekend?

Thanks, Duncan. And it is true. Are we all learning something here? Hugs to you, my good friend.
Sharon, LOL. I can laugh now, but you know I was not laughing a few days ago. I was cringing and biting my nails.  Thanks, friend. I think I'm going to sleep better tonight, and the silence isn't going to wake me up.

Kacy,
Boy do I ever find myself a day late and a dollar short! Some friend, huh? Hopefully that bump in the road is gone! Peace friend...even in the silence.

How well I can relate to this one. I’ve often filled in the blanks of silence, and ended up with a much worse scenario than the truth. My natural paranoia I suppose!!! I’m so glad your silence was just born of circumstance, and not any of the things you filled it in with.

Your poem makes me think of this favorite quote.

BRAVO!!! Oh Kacy, once again I have to say I understand what you mean, and I too have never seen silence as golden, but rather we can distinguish silence and serenity as two different forms. Silence is rather complete soundlessness, whereas serenity has a sense of peace and satisfaction that is more optimistic! (kiss on cheek) I am so happy you reposted this, sweet friend, this is excellent, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Kacy, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Larry, you're always where you should be, and on time.
Karilea, yes, I had to repost it, it felt like sticking a big mirrored bandaid on my head.
Nancy, thanks for your support.
Tracey, whew, am I glad the silence was just silence.
Passing Shadows, thanks for your reply.
Accordionmaid, thank you, for reminding me to read the wisdom of Thoreau again.
Noah, very well said. There really is a difference, isn't there. Silence can be brings a sense of serenity, but not in every case.

There is a certain solace to be found in our quiet times, although I can't seem to settle the endless flow of under currents that surround me in my silence.

It is not golden,
nor is it tarnished.

To me those lines say it all!!

It's always good to read you Midnitesun~

Thank you for reposting...this is about the gray between the black and white! What we wish to be simple may be... but for the impatience of the human to reconcile our world... Wonderful.
