A Spoonful of Dirt

spoonful of dirt, in loving kind
too many bulb-burnt stars to count
dismal is a sigh of a lonely night
still grazing from atop a gallant mount

Lest we forget, unload father's gun
some keys are meant to fall and be lost
Don't make nightmares out of daydreams
A pauper of soul can never pay the cost.

Feasting on fantasies is not a sign of wealth
The strong have no need to announce their health.
So go on,
count your stars, gather possessions and waste your time
I'll take mine, spooned out humbly
with just a touch
of lime

This was very thought provoking...In these busy lives we forget the virue in humbleness...that we may be the masters of the universe, but not the creator. I really like this. ThisDiamond

Diamond, you are very correct!  I was attempting a poem about excesses,
gluttony of the soul, and how people count their blessings in all the
wrong directions.  Man, i am thrilled that you picked up what i intended.
A 100 thank you's!  Greatly appreciated,
Jeff

We should indeed learn to be more humble and live in simple abundance!
Wonderful write Jeff!

Jeff darling boy this is an awesome piece of writing, with a powerful message of count your blessings for what they really are. The wonder of a morning sky, the sound of a thrush calling in the dew soaked grass, the miracles of nature that not one million pieces of gold can buy.

As always darling boy you write with such eloquence and style, Krissy will love this one as much as I do. Excellent writing truly excellent

Nancy the Wondrous Enchantress:
~actually eating some turkey and grave-y minus the dirt~
That is a really eloquent way of summarizing this:
'simple abundance'
and a half-pint of blessings
and a Master's dish is born!
Thankx Nance!  *smiles*

Maaaawssha Maaaawsha Maaaawsha
It's always : "Maaaawsha Maaaawsha Maaaawsha"

Hey, tell Krissy I said 'Ello, will you please? (notice I dropped the 'H' just for you!)
I think there was something in the Turkey!
And the meat had something in it too!  Awww....Thankx!

Jeff, what a wonderful poem, you have created here, life is what we make of it, its true essence should be happiness, built from the simple things and all our blessings.

Great work,
Sincerely Rick

Jeff darling boy, I don’t drop my aiches darling boy, I’m a softy southerner not a Londoner. Besides as I say I haven’t got an accent at all, YOU have.

The majority of my post didn’t appear before I don’t know why but I’ve corrected it now. Krissy sends a hello darling right back to you. I read this to her and she said tell him it’s a wonderful piece of writing he should be proud of the complexity but also the simplicity in it. Xxxx with love from Krissy to her friend Jaff

But I feast on fantasies every time I come here. Is that wrong? It's one of the pleasures of my life.-Very nice poem about the true treasures of life. I like it.
