A Wee Lad

He darted around my bushes
And scampered about the lawn.
Thinking I had not seen him
He was wrong.

Then he strolled down the path
Whistling a lively tune,
And with a skip of his feet
Kicked the twigs that were strewn.

I quietly followed a few steps behind.
Tiptoeing so softly not making a sound.
As he hid behind flowers I snatched a quick look.
And saw that his cheeks were quite pink and so round.

As I glanced round the corner
And his hat I did see,
It was pointed and bright
As bright as could be.

He had a pipe in his mouth
A corncob I think.
As he darted about
He gave me a wink.

He was so tiny
Yet he was just grand.
Just where had he come from
I could not understand.

Then peeking about
His feet sticking out.
With his little shoes pointed
Now there was no doubt.

How lucky was I
To have visit me.
A sprightly Leprechaun
As sweet as could be.
