I believe I posted this one a while back, but it's something that needs reposted from time to time anyway. As always, this is for those who can't speak for themselves...

Slaughtered Innocence

Sixteen children were buried today,
Laid out in ivory caskets,
As people walked by, paying their respects; while
Uptown, another child died and
Gunfire filled the air.
Hundreds of babies died today,
Taken from the womb before they
Ever took their first breath; while
Rape, abuse and neglect took hundreds more.
Evening shadows fall in silent graveyards, where
Dozens of tiny crosses stand in testament.

Innocence is lost, slaughtered, as
Nations fail to hear their silent cries.
Nameless faces are soon forgotten by many as each night
On the evening news, another dead
Child takes their place.
Emergency rooms are painted red with their blood and the
Numbers escalate each day; while upstairs another
Child, our future, is born;
Entering this world with cries as I, with tears, pray for change.

I never read this before Ruth so thank you for posting it, and I too pray with you for change.  Thank you for re-posting it, as it is something we should all never forget.

Well this is too important to fall that fast and I came to re-read it as others should get to see this wonderfully done reminder to us all.

Wow. I'm glad that I got the chance to read this. Such a tender subject, taboo almost, and written with such excellence. Thanks for the read.

I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather, not screaming, terrified, like his passengers.

I never saw this one before, wonderfully done. A serious and tragic subject, glad to see it posted.

this says it all....sadly so...and terrible
that it continues...

I too pray for them...those that come into
a very harsh world..
