Did You Find Pleasure?

by Michael

Each scar I have is one you gave.
Dear Daddy, how I try, forgive,
the painful kicks and broken bones,
the nightmares that will always live.

Your stench of alcoholic breath,
would sicken me when you came near.
How big you seemed and without fault.
Did you find pleasure in my fear?

Did you find pleasure in my tears
and how they never seemed to quit,
while on the floor, curled in a ball,
expecting yet another hit?

But not a hit, a kick, instead.
How easy, my blood seemed to flow.
"Now get to bed and dont you tell!"
Then off to bed I'd always go.

I vowed, if kids, I one day had,
they'd never have to tell a lie.
I'd never beat them, as you did,
but hold them close, not make them cry.

Yes, Daddy, I still try, forgive.
One day, I promise, it will be.
I always loved you, feared to say,
how much you always meant to me.

Stars will shine when I am gone
Earth will spin on as before
Gulls still race along the shore
Morning star, still kiss the dawn

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Michael, this is soooooooo heartbreaking, I don't know what to say except not one child or person should ever be treated this way, and my heart goes out to you and the domestic abuse you suffered! (sad sigh) I too was abused when I was a little boy, not by my dad, but by boys my own age everyday at school and after school, so I know this torment! I don't understand how anyone can laugh over something so terrible like that, dearest friend, know you are loved by many always and our hearts all go out to you! We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is very powerfully expressed! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Auguste this is so so sad, and you have told a heartfelt story of abuse. It tears at my heart Auguste, and in spite of it all, we still always love our fathers. Why couldn't they love us back..This is so sad, and you have done a fantastic job telling it. floria

Michael this is just heartbreaking...
I am at a loss for words at the moment.
I feel so bad for any child who is abused this way.
You have expressed this very very well.

Auguste...How painful these memories must be.  I have known emotional abuse; but have never known the combination of both. Whatever form of abuse on a child..it is devastating. Especially from those whom we trust the most...our parents. Hope you find healing...as I did. By His (Jesus') stripes
I was healed...and you are healed.  Hope you find the peace that surpasses all understanding.   ***Ivy Rose

Your life is my life it seems...if you only knew how much this hurt to read and how much I relate.  This is very haunting and well expressed.

Take care,

Throughout the years
My heart felt lots of emotional pain
Reading through your poem
Took me there once again
So sad Micheal but yes the heartaches are felt

Michael, the pain showed so vividly through this poem. How anyone could mistreat a child is beyond me.Children are so very precious. This was so sad but written with so much feeling.

I was one of the lucky ones, never  having felt abuse nor fear...the only thing we fought over  as  kids was that saying

"Daddy always  loved you best"..yet each of us thought that of the other..perceptions  of siblings.

Diamond,
Thank you for the very eloquent reply.

Noah,
If we're strong, we come out the victors.  Wouldn't you agree?  Thank you, my friend.

Floria,
Though my father has long since passed on I still very much love him.  As for your question, I couldn't begin to understand how to answer it.  Thank you!

Martie,
"Sometimes" that is true, but all too often it only continues the cycle of abuse, unless one is wise enough not to let it do so.  Thank you and *hugs* my friend.

Nancy,
Just know that I appreciate you being here.  Thanks!

Susan,
Much love to you also, sweet friend. Thank you! (((hugs)))

Lauren,
Thank you, sincerely, for your reply.  (((hugs)))

Ivy Rose,
His is also my Shepherd and the source of my strength.  Thank you!

Melissa,
I am so very sorry that you had to suffer any form of abuse.  You are in my prayers.  Please know that. Thanks for dropping in.

passing shadows,
Thanks for visiting.

Hope,
Sympathy isn't needed, but support is most welcome.  Thank you!

Juanita,
Thank you for coming by and reading.

Maureen,
I am so glad to hear your childhood was a good one and I thank you for taking the time to read.

Everyone,
I it's important to understand that as children, we never caused the abuse to happen.  We were totally innocent.  It's also important that upon reaching adulthood we DON'T let the cycle of abuse continue.  My father had a bad temper and alcohol only seemed to make it worse.

He passed away many years ago and I dearly love and miss him.  He was a good man, just not a good father.

Thank each of you, personally, for reading.  My peace to you all!

Michael

amigo,

There's nothing amazing about me.  As children, we love our parents
unconditionally, as they do us.  Though the poem speaks of "trying" to forgive, I forgave my father many years ago while he was still around to hear those words.  Thank you!
