Word of the Day?
By Larry Chadwick

If I wrote a poem,
That gave the word of the day?
Would it be worthwhile,
If I didn’t give the meaning away?

Or would you just pass by,
And not even look it up?
Skimming through the post,
But of the words not sup.

Say I used the word pizzle,
Would you even have a clue?
Causing me to laugh,
And I’m sure you would too.

Or how about the word petard,
Would you think it a gas?
Might you choose to ignore,
And just let them all pass?

How else can we expand our minds,
Then to learn new things each day?
Maybe I’ll just leave the fancy words,
To Midnitesun today!

I surely adore those times when a poet comes across a word that we have rarely seen, and lays it out in splendiferous form...

and tomorrow's word will be..........?

Larry!  You just made me remember a game we played with my dad.  He would give us a word for the day, and during the day we would find the meaning and use it in conversations with him as though we had always used it, and it was such great fun! *Most of the words were not 'real' words at all so we made up meanings.*  Thanks for the remember!  And...the word is?

Larry darling boy and the word of the day is …… sinistrodextral. This is a sinistrodextral text

This is utterly utterly splendiferous. I absolutely love this poem.

sinistrodextral means written from left to right, from the Latin sinister meaning left and dextral meaning right I thought I’d save you looking it up.

Absolutely excellent writing

Better be careful about some of those words. The operative word today might not be printable.

Larry, looks like you bring out the best in everyone. I do read sinistrodextro although I see a lot of  dextralsinstro wisdom, too.

And Nancy's dad's word game sounds like a very exciting way to go through the day.

I think a challenge is in order. To write a poem with a new word, never used before. What about it you wizzards of Passion?   .

Methylenedioxymethamphetamine.

Why take Methylenedioxymethamphetamine
When God's LOVE will make your soul soar up to heaven's stars
So I'll just send you some LOVING brew from HIS machine
The best relaxing joyful high I have seen by far.

God's LOVE beats

Methylenedioxymethamphetamine.

Your turn,

((Larry))

Duncan,
And I thought I was the KING of Night Owls! Keep that dictionary handy.

Sunshine,
Got to be careful what I start! LOL No peeking...and the word is not available yet.

PdV,
That is indeed a hefty challenge. My Dictionaries are in storage. ROFL But I'll find a way.

Nancy,
Your daddy was a wise man! And you a lucky girl. Thanks for the memory.

floria,
So you knew both of those eh? Too funny. I'll get you yet!

Nan,
Put that pizzle away and spare the bull! LOL I'm thinking this may be a fun challenge. But a lot of work. Worth a try though.

vandana,
Thanks for stopping by.

Noah,
Let's see how it works! See ya there.

Mushy,
Aren't you a shirttail relative of Websters? LOL Maybe you should be in charge of this challenge dear.

Kacy,
That's the advantage of fresh words now isn't it? LOL You should know.

I have seen a pile of new words since I have
been frequenting PiP.....One problemo.....
where did I hide or misplace my word book..
AKA dictionary....?????

I think it is a good idea....I know another
site that does/did quotes of the day...

First, we all have to put the extra few mins.
into looking up the meaning...

I think this is a great challenge, Larry.
Is it official?
Please tell me, or I will develop a case of periepidermal claudication.

I think you started something! That would be a cool challenge though!

Magnus,
Well, you could just ignore and stay confused. LOL Thanks.

Lyra,
Okay...it's official. Dang, now I have to go find my dictionary. LOL

Skyfire,
Seems you are exactly right on both counts! Thanks.
