56 Chevy In those days youth was on her cheeks, and her full skirt spread across the front seat all the way to the window. She knew her hair flew past his cheek and caressed his ear, and could see his thoughts written on his blue jeans, as she smiled a secret smile. For those were times when skin was new and as sure of direction as the blue sky and asphalt rolling over the green hills into love. Turquoise shine of time, as much a part of them as her hand on his leg and the ring she wore around her neck. |

You bring back beautiful memories of my 55 red plymouth, my first "new" car. But I don't remember anyone putting their hand on my leg. As I recall it may have been the other way around. ((Martie)) -newel Sharing God's Love through perfectlovepoetry.com |

Turquoise shine of time, as much a part of them as her hand on his leg and the ring she wore around her neck. I just love the way you describe this, Martie. The fifties were indeed, very turquoise. They were also pink and charcoal grey and cherry pink and apple blossom white. And we wore their rings around our necks. The fifties were such a special time... Do you remember virgin pins? I love your poem....it brings back some very precious memories. copyright2002 Lyra Nesius |

A 56 Chevy is before my time, but I loved the read! I want to die peacefully, in my sleep, like my grandfather, not screaming, terrified, like his passengers. |

OH WOW!! Oh Martie! I could sit up and remember with you all night! Poodle skirts and bobbie sox and penny loafers! And Lyra I do remember virgin pins!!! LOL. Oh those cars were sooo cool and the guys had ducktails...and..yes, I wore his ring around my neck! He was such a cool daddy-o! I believe everyone should have had the experience of living their teen years in the 50's. Life was so fun then. Oh Martie, thank you for the remember tonight. I love this....sooo cool!! ~Hugs, Nancy~ ~Sometimes all you really wish for... |

you do have a way with words Martie. When I saw 56 Chevy, it was certain I would like. While no words of two-door hardtops, a rolled and tucked interior with a smokin' 283, (I suspect that is more of a male thing) you captured that time of life with your your usual flair for perfect mood and visualization. (don't know if you are aware of this fact, but you are good at this poetry thing) |

Wow, Martie. The '56 Chevy was a really cool car. There is someone here in Fairbanks with a traditional turquoise and white, totally restored '56 Chevy with whitewall tires, and I've seen it once or twice in town (on a nice summer day.) Talk about some memories! I don't remember the ring around the neck. My boyfriend had ring around the collar though. LOL, he also drove a '56 Ford. BTW, the poem is really great! (sigh) Ooohhhhhhh...I guess I don't have a lot to say about this poem since I never got to live those times, but they do sound so magical to me and I would love to turn on some of those oldies while taking my Joanna places! (kiss on cheek) This is wonderful, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Martie, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! For those were times when skin was new and as sure of direction as the blue sky and asphalt rolling over the green hills into love. And then the uncertainty crept in... and is remorseless in its refusal to leave. *S* This is wonderful, Martie. *S* I no longer doubt the possibility of time travel... for I just slipped back in time. *S* |

I really appreciate your descriptions, such as: and her full skirt spread across the front seat all the way to the window. because they're not overblown with a zillion adjectives, and they are so clear - it's like looking through glass...which produces atmosphere, and an affinity with the poem it's really hard to critique you, you know heh K |

So many wonderful lines in this memory stirrer. Days and life were so simple then, but we didn't think so. Hugs Ken Through rubble and trouble and dark of night |
