Lend Me An Ear

~*Marge Tindal*~

Stately still this tree of ears
Time moved on leaving boyhood secrets here
Among the branching whispered-tales
of when little Nick did youthfully dwell~

I stand in the shade of boyhood dreams
a haven nestled among strong limbs of leafy green
Softly now the tree yearns to share
the days of a little boy fortressed there~

About the base of giant tree
boney-skulls of trespassed treachery
Warning those who might encroach
what could happen if they dared approach~

Where are you gone, sweet Nicky boy ?
Does the treehouse password work on life ?
Varooming now in teenaged second-gear
Please come by to visit when you're near~

*Dedicated to a young boy, now turned teen, named Nick~
Sharing whispers from an Ear Tree in the backyard of Driftwood Decor in Orlando, FL.

*Enterolobium cyclocarpum -
This tree is so named, not because of the delicate
Mimosa-like feathery leaves resembling elephant's ears,
but because the seed pods resemble ears.

Marge

Some of my truest friends are trees.

Trees remember and bring back those special memories. Hugs, dear sister!

Marge - this is beautiful and the pic reminds me of the tree in the movie Raintree County. Did you ever see it? The movie I mean.....lol, for if you have seen "the raintree" please take me there. I enjoyed this. Chris

I liked this very much, Marge. *S* My oak tree still stands in my Dad's pasture... though these aging bones can no longer swing up to nestle... I swear all the lower limbs dropped off!!! LOL

Margie girl oh my this is truly lovely, the tree is gorgeous, we don’t have trees like that here. Mostly orchards, apples and pears mainly with a cherry orchard behind the Oast houses.

This is another of your utter delights darling girl I love it, and I love the tree too

YOU have left treasure here to inspire, utterly utterly perfectly penned darling girl

What can I say except this is utterly wonderful.

Love and warm stuff

Omigosh, Lady..
I can think of lots of trees who know my presence and my name when I was younger. I loved this. It brought back a smile from being very young, and it brought it back in your most beautiful of ways.
Adoring this...

MyFriends~
This one was a 'really-truly' place that I visited on Friday ... as the gents were busy conducting the buying of driftwood ... I marveled at the stories I 'heard' coming from the giant Ear Tree in the backyard ... Nick's father was kind enough to answer a few questions about the 'whispers' I heard ... and then I just dipped it in my ink~

It was a WONDERFUL experience~

*NightShade~
YES ... and I LOVED IT !
I hope you find your way back to the RainTree ..

Marge, I just love the way you dip into your ink of wisdom.... and poetic wonder. This was a great write. I've never heard the whisper of trees... but, the next time I will listen... One great write..

Hi Sis,
Reading this reminded me of something I meant to tell you a few days ago but I must have had a "Senior Moment".

Last Friday I was driving down Old Daytona Rd. and guess what; "The" camphor tree still
stands.

Marge:  This was nostalgic and sweet.  Also extremely interesting.  I have heard of "ear" trees somewhere but have never seen one until now.  Pretty tree and so unique! Your poem pleased and educated!

Oh my ... the trees will whisper if you take the time to listen my dear lady~
Thank you so much for your sweet replies~

BillyBull~
Big brother ... we MUST have been on the same branch of thought ... I was thinking of that same Camphor tree of our youth as I wrote this~
Maybe I'll have to pay a visit to gather whispers from 'our' tree ... I'm certain it holds many nostalgic whispers~
LOVE YOU~

Peaches~
Thank you so much dear~  What a lovely thing to say~

BettyLou~
Oh .. I'm soooo glad to share the Ear Tree with you, just as the whispers of Nick were shared with me~
Thank you, sweetie~

Marge, I have been wandering down memory lane lately too. Such lovely memories come from the simplest triggers.
This is a beautiful one.
