With these words I now employ, A futile attempt of mine, Though I am known as slightly coy, I humbly seek thee-- a Valentine. Told by some I must regale With words so sweet and phrases, With my speech high castles scale, To paint thee as quaint daisies. So here I go since I've been told, That there is quite no other way, Though I be timid I may be bold, And hope my words thee sway. Your locks of hair are flowing light, Upon these restful flowers. Your beauty- am I regaleing right?- Atop the roof of heaven towers. And your toes, your tiny toes, Wiggle softly by the grassy mold, Sprouting quickly, tho' as a rose. (I am performing, you must behold!) Thy hopeful eyes- a peaceful well Into which I loose a stone, And fall straight to- can thee tell If with these words I merely drone? I rather wish to well thee praise, To sing to all your glory, truth be told, I thee do raise, As leaves uncurl- a flower hoary. O Heather, if this is rhyming rightly, And if I've let thy beauty shine, Please give consent to kiss me lightly, And hold my hand-- my Valentine. ------------------- Meter is the most God-awful poetic device to me. Even with this poem, I'm sure some parts are rough on meter. -Derek |
