When Calm Takes Hold

Not sure when the calmness took hold,
was it yesterday, this morning,
this very moment?
I seem undisturbed at the thought
of having lost you now.
There is serenity in the wind,
tranquility in the cold
on this last day of February.

I would call, but the distance is too great.
You are there, somewhere, eyes watching me,
I am sure. Proud? Maybe not
but I feel your presence
when my eyes close
and the memories flood.

I am soothed by the stillness
surrounding me.
I am eased into a newness,
that peace of mind brings.
I have said all I could, worded
all my thoughts, pressed my heart
to yours and now, I am complete.

I am whole again, never needing
my second half, once stolen,
quite artfully,
and today unexpectly returned.

It was a theft of heart, without permission,
acted upon with unknown consequences.
Last night I held you in my warmth of hope.
This morning, I release you
into your world once again.
From this moment on, I fly free
from the ties that bind...

You know ~V...somewhere in the back of my mind I knew this day was really coming and
holding on was the wrong thing to do, (so I was told over and over)...I don't ever lose love for anyone in my life that has passed my way...but when feelings can't be returned
for whatever the reason, it is time to move on or let go..or atleast do without..and *s I have done without for so long now that it has become normal to me...and I can finally accept that now

BRAVO!!! God Bless You, sweet friend, this is a wonderful poem about holding on to hope and spreading wings of faith again! (kiss on cheek) I just know Newell will love this so much, we all love you so much! I LOVE IT!!! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Maureen, thank you for sharing!

Beautifully said, Maureen....this poem reminds me so much of the time right after my first husband died. I just couldn't let go of him, and even though I knew in my mind that he was going to die soon, my heart just couldn't face it. ((hugs))

James..I tried to let go many times, only to be drawn back into the hold. Love is a very powerful feeling. Thank you for reading

Actually Lyra, in that verse, I was wishing for my Dad's wisdom though gone. I have had such a hard time of late and keep thinking if only he were here and I could talk to him,
he would tell me what to do, but obviously Heaven is very far away and a call would never reach *s

Maureen,

this was a very strong emotional
piece. i could feel this all the way
through, every line. you have captured
a lot of feelings in this and expressed
it in a way we all here can relate to.
hugs to you dear friend, and im glad
to see that you are growing stronger
and able to recover from such loss. losing
love can be devestating and painful,
but sometimes with the help of supportive
friends, and a little faith things do
get better. take care.

Amy, thank you for your thoughtful response. Sometimes one tries too hard for something that probably was never there to be shared in the first place. I like your signature..along with it I believe there are many people that can't accept love when offered. I am stronger than most know or believe, it's just that I am too hopeful..and have to learn to lower my expectations.*s
