A few months ago, I wrote this poem for another poet whose mother was dying of cancer and needed some uplifting (and she did not have faith in God):

Seek not the light at the end of the tunnel
passing life here, in tornado’s funnel
No brave songs trip from this tongue
no incantations bring forever young

Bravery is not just a soldier’s right
but given to you as you suffer this fight
no medal placed upon weary breast
but satisfaction that you’ve done your best

The love reflected in your children’s eyes
is proof you lived and your heart survives
take each moment as it is and hold it dear
face each day with honor’s fear
Yesterday, I got an email from someone who had read it and wanted to know if I would allow her to read it at her own mother's funeral. I of course said yes.

I have been blocked lately and getting worried about my ability as a writer - I questioned whether or not to just give up as it seems very little 'inspires' me lately and when I get an inspiration, I can't do anything about it. So this request really made my day. I may not be able to write for some time, but at least I have a bit more confidence in myself...sigh. Thanks for letting me vent!

Sad, but what an honor to know that your words are a comfort to those who mourn.

It's a beautiful poem Sharon, written with your lovely compassion and generous heart.

The block is only in the mind, Sharon.
The words, however, are the *heart*.

Beautiful...

This piece is beautiful Sharon ... and what a wonderful response to hear back on your work. It's inspiring to know that your words are warming another's heart, miles away.

Best wishes,
/Kit

If that happened to me, it'd make my day too. And the Muse ALWAYS comes back....trust me!

God bless America, my home sweet home.
