I feel the fear, as I did today
watching the elderly maneuver electronically
and my emotions filling with the thought of aloneness.

What will happen to me (my selfishness taking hold)
when I have no one who cares enough to share my life
or for me to care about, to make my days worthwhile.

It overwhelms, brings a tear or two, knowing
that soon I will lose her and need to move forward,
but feel like I'm going backward instead.
