A news headline I read this morning:
"Slow mend for valley hoes"

OH NO, I cried in despair
for the poor working gal
with disheveled hair!

Then to my wondering unfocused eyes,
I soon realized
it actually read:

"Slow mend for valley woes."

Oops, different job category, as it was about high-paid techies out of work, and this 'other' category never seems to have a job shortage problem.

LOL, do you ever mis-read in the AM when you haven't had your morning java jumpstart?

This got me chuckling, and validated my morning mantra: coooooffeeeeeee. Whoever gets up first has to make it, and we make it strong enough to strip varnish. It's less of a pick-me-up and more like a grab-around-the-throat-like-Vadar-and-shake-like-Serenity's-terrier-on-a-rawhide-bone. If your eyes don't open a bit after you realize what you just drank...well, that's one litmus test for death, I reckon.

"grab-around-the-throat-like-Vadar-and-shake-like-Serenity's-terrier-on-a-rawhide-bone"

nodding and smiling here...yep.

I'm having a cup o varnish remover right now, while sitting here wearing two different slippers as Duncan a.k.a. has struck again.

*note to self*

No more "kitty" slippers for Karen--can't tell if the dog hates 'em or loves 'em but the result is the same.

and Midnite? There's a local warehouse here by the name of Flick Supply Co. which reads quite as something else when seen from the left hand angle...

Ummm... should I confess that not all of my mis-reads are confined to those pre-caffeine moments? LOL

I like the smiles in this thread. *S*

Duncan?

Not surprised--more like appalled at the visual I have of *ahem* "things" after noting the state of my slippers...

But let's find some other similarities, shall we?

Loves a tummy rub.
--okay, I'll buy that.

Barks helpfully when the big dog barks, but means business, dammit!
--heh heh?

likes to sleep on my satin robe when he's ousted from my pillow
--hmmm...grin. Okay. Benefit of the doubt, on that'n.

licks himself?
--duncan?

DO TELL.

(sorry for this interruption, Kacy, but I thought you might be curious too!)

Um...blush, duncan? I forgot to mention...

My other dog seems to be a trans-species lesbian. (She likes kitties too--girl kitties.)

Oh, the things that have gone on in my kitchen!

A wonderful little poem that makes a good point.  Funny how such "mistakes" can alert us to ideas like the one you've presented here.

Tee-hee, this was about the funniest thread I have read in a long time.. ^^ Thanks Midnitesun.. Yeah, I have a habit of misreading things, even when it's NOT early in the morning, or really late at night.. Maybe it's coz I don't drink coffee.. Hmm..  =P And you guys, geez.. I might just hide my slippers.. AND my cats..

Bless your cotten sockies, you poetic maniacs. ^_^

Love - Lynne

thought I'd bring this one back to life...just found it and I relate so much to it...when I was a kid, I misread a sign in our local toystore..."Shoplifters will be PERSECUTED"...to this day I have a phobia about picking up anything in a store unless I intend on buying it...I'd rather not be persecuted, thank you   It was years before I became aware of the true reading of that sign.
