silver curling shimmer gray turning twice upon itself I stood there at age of five breathing heavy smudge... wishing for myself away a shaman at the age of six bending smoke to suit my will wafting from the clay I spoke and formed a mask of distances. I loved to try to capture it. I understood it was his breath. It had form and understand-- my tiny hand would try to clutch as smoke would disappear. He never worried me away. My fingers learned to dance this way-- like the cobra--basket free-- spinning carpals "watch me, Dad" hear me gripping lobes I speak-- seven...voices clap and sing. What a sad, powerful image... a child who doesn't understand smoking, drinking, just associates them with her father, and celebrates them as being something wonderful and magical. The innocence of childhood manifest defiantly against the brutality of fact. I'm glad that at least some of us can remember how wonderful it was not to know. You and your wonderful poetry, Karen... what ever shall we do. See you in an anthology in the distant future. Bri Faith is a fine invention |

Thank you. And LP? you always see right on through too...I was thinking the other night while I was sitting here wheezing how I've always loved smoke. I would stand over my Dad's ashtray--and the sad fact that my Dad died of lung cancer is not beyond me either. and OH. I did get your offlines too, but yahoo has been acting up for me too. Methinks I am about to shoot the messenger. Love to all--I'll shaddup and go read a bit. |
