You lay along the water,
floating on the tide.

A girl slowly receding
into the spray and salt.

A night among the sea lanes.
The moonstone crests and wanes --

and pulls wet waves from plains
of shadows deep and long.

Erased and spread out empty,
in lingering slow tips

of foam curling and falling,
collapsed in rainy breaths.

The capsized vessel's vanished,
the echoes of their voices.

You sigh with satisfaction
and sink into the remnants of their wake.
