I watch my shadow dance, and I immediately have to ask where did he learn to move the light? He displaces distance, his silhouette off every surface, moving with a practiced grace unknown to my limbs. He wraps himself in others' shadows -- arm to arm, leg to leg, (head to head and feet to feet) -- I never see him sweat. He sways, but doesn't fall. He cuts dark felt into the screen. He grows heads tall or strobes in stasis. Light swallows him whole. His rhythm cradles the beat. Measured, calm, determined. He doesn't sit this one out. He just won't stop dancing. |

Ah, the dancing shadow. I remember being so fascinated by my shadow when I was a child, but stupid "growing up" ruined it all for me. Now I hardly pay attention at all, except when I'm walking home at night between streetlights and it does that neat little thing where there are three shadows and they slowly merge as I walk away from the lights. Isn't that cool? Anyways, cool poetry, Mike... thanks for sharing with us. If there's some deeper meaning you had that I forgot to probe for, just whap me or something. Nope, no deeper meanings here. Just a shallow club night poem. |

I cry because tears make nice poems. Actually, no, I'm not crying at all. .m. |
