Nutcracker Sweet I cared to see Outside of me So unwound the blinds And took my little Room beyond The actions themselves Allowed for horizons Expansion, Winds knitted bare Limbs into a dance Skeletal Only gray denotes Possible chill air In my room, it is Warming still my soul Outside, squirrels Pretend summer is Only around the Tree trunk And he watches me, His silver back the only Notation of age, I wonder, Has he been here how long? Surely he’s fathered the Smaller babes that he Chitters at, scampering them From HIS kernels How old DO squirrels become? Would that I be as limber In my age as he proposes Might still be, Jumping from trunk to Limb as if he were One of his younger own Or is he just showing off? When his when comes, I only hope he hies Himself off to a place Where the sun shines As he rests his bones On a limb that will Hold him gently For all time I cared to see Outside of me So unwound the blinds And took my little Room beyond ©Karilea Rilling Jungel 13 January 2002 |

(giggles in delight) Ooohhhhh...I don't know why, but every time I think of those cute critters, I can't help but feel so excited and happy inside, for I always smile when I see them in the park and out on my bird feeder! (kiss on cheek) Soooooo adorable, sweet friend, I love your title soooo much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Karilea, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Interesting take. Caring to see outside yourself. I like that. You always do that in your poetry. I love these little squirrels, too. One of the few benefits to living in the northeast, I see lots of them.. Sandra |

I felt there was an underlying theme in this one. One of expanding ones horizons. There is so much to see outside our windows if we just bother too look. Well, there is nothing really to see outside the windows of my house, believe me, even the squirrels don't want to look.lol Nice writing. Sunshine - I love this....we have four little squirrels living somewhere in our backyard, and they play like kittens with ornaments that I decorated our tiny spruce tree with this past Christmas season. Now, I am torn as to take them down or not. Should I ask the squirrels? lol. Chris Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away. |
