Wind Came Clouds circled the wagons Anchored tongues around Sol’s great campfire. Yet, wind came, Gave a great guffaw of laughter, Piled clouds, like so many tumbleweeds, against the great Blues of Eastern Oregon. Arborvitae danced in chilled huddles; plotted strategies of play. First and down, short of half-time, pirouettes gave them away. Elm’s and hemlock’s great arms ceded fingers to fervent prayer; littered landscapes with nails and splinters, wondered length of wild wind’s dare. I walked bent and wavering, sought my home and tight closed door. Gripped the handle that would bar me--- closed out wind to naught but sing. ©January 12, 2002 Whether on the shoal or on the shore, |
