Two grown men acted a child's age Heated dispute soon turned to wild rage Thomas Junta and Michael Costin are their names Deadly fight broke out during practice of the game Self defense is a highly supported law but Mr. Costin was beaten bloody and raw Thomas Junta believed that he was the victim Evidence against him blocked him from beating the system Junta's actions are beyond being justified Two hockey coaches, one convicted, one died What kind of message for the kids will it send? Is violence the answer when we can't make amends? Torn families left behind in the dust Their thoughts in their heads a faint hush Wishing they could rewind the previous events A second chance for the men to use common sense In my opinion, Junta received what he deserved Although both sides of the story couldn't be heard The jury had to do what was right Thus incarcerating Mr. Junta for 3-5 years of his life. |

 (tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Joanna, this is so sad, but yet I also feel glad that these hockey players got what they deserved, for Junta and Costin get what they deserve and they should be ashamed of themselves, this is almost like a million five for fighting penalties combined! (sad sigh) This makes me very angry, and I hope this doesn't encourage children to be violent this way! (sigh) So well said, sweet friend, you always write such wonderful words, fabulous challenge! There is no excuse for violence and when our children see it from the coaches they look up to they think that it is expected from them too. I think it is deplorable and he got what he deserved. I have been following this case, and I couldn't agree more. No matter who started it, you can't tell me that Junta couldn't have use a little more restraint when trying to defend himself. I mean to kill a man over a kid's hockey practice is ridiculous, and neither of them thought about their kids. If Junta didn't like what was going on, he should of pulled his kid from the program. I could go on, but I won't. Nice write. Dave |

I live in the Boston area and this case has been splattered all over the TV and newspapers. There are no winners in this. Two little boys have both lost their dads and the example these two men showed others is a disgrace. I wonder if 3-5 for Mr. Junta is enough time for him to think about his rage. To all parents with children that play sports, 'Sit down, act like grownups, let the kids play and be kids.' |

You did a great job putting this true story in the form of a poem. I wonder also if 3-5 years is enough time for Mr. Juanta to spend in prison...does that mean he will get out in a year for good behavior? If so, it seems to me he got only a slap on the wrist. A very good poem. |

Time to lay down the law and convict the slayer for life even, what gall over a kid's game..lot's of parents have to find out healthier ways of releasing their frustrations!I like topics such as these Rose as you have seen they are slices of life and some are truly galling  [This message has been edited by ecrivan (01-13-2002 09:04 PM).] |

Very nice work...I myself was sadened, shocked and appalled over this whole nonsense...but you know what, these parents who go haywire obvioulsy haven't been issued a some kind of code of conduct for behavior...hopefully, the lawmakers and everyone else will wake-up and take proper action to decrease or prevent future incidents like this cause, we don't need this....peace to all!! Very good Joanna! Yes these two adults acted in a very childish way to a simple misunderstanding that could have easily been settled in another manner. The rage overtook both men, sadly ending one's life and the others for 3-5 years. It is a sad thing. I loved the way you made this into a poem! RosePetal,this was a wonderful poem about a very sad incident.I went to a soccer game one time where the parents were throwing the lawn chairs around.It is a sad time when the children can`t play sports and just enjoy themselves.   Juanita |
