Free Verse From Me…NOT! |

Free Verse From Me…NOT! By Larry Chadwick I thought I would write some free verse, So I sat down and tried so hard to think. It just seems my mind doesn’t work that way, As I try to apply to this paper some ink. Guess I haven’t figured out how it’s done, I just know that it’s tough to be hip. So here I sit writing in rhyme, Feeling completely like a dip. I’m old enough I shouldn’t care, But boy I really wanted to try. It doesn’t seem to be working yet, And I am almost ready to cry. Finally I decided I don’t care, What people think of my poems. Cause I write them for me, And that’s all that matters. Holy cow! What was that? I may have written a free verse. But here I go all over again, This rhyming thing can sure be a curse! [This message has been edited by Larry C (01-10-2002 11:55 PM).] |

Victoria, You're way ahead of me. My first verse was with rwood (1 verse) and this my second. Don't want to rush into anything! LOL Bill, Sorry...you didn't double dare me. ROTFLMAO |

Larry - Congrats on your very first free verse stanza. I had the same problem at first with free verse, because I felt without rhyme, a poem had no rhythm. But that is not true, it just takes awhile to get used to. I also took some kind of tonic to cure me of the dreaded rhyming curse.lol Nice write. Dave |

Dave, Technically...it's my second. But like that is alot of mileage. LOL And what was in your tonic. As to free verse; most of it is a challenge for me even as a reader. However, I have found in here several who make me long for some of that touch. Ya' know? |

Wanna know a secret? People who write in rhyme generally tend to eventually have superior free verse because they carry things learned in structure that only get better in so called "free" verse. Don't apologize. Good rhyme is hard to find. |

Many poets who write only in free verse, think that rhyming poetry is not real poetry because the rhyme carries the poem and in so called real poetry, the thought should carry the poem. But I think it takes infinitely more intelligence and talant(both of which you, Larry...have in abundance), to carry off a good rhyming poem. I just like your poems...free verse or rhyming or as this poem is...a combination of both.....now thats REALLY hard to do well! But...you did it. By the way, Dave's remedy..or whatever he calls it, for rhyming...is N.Y. Pizza. Its so nasty, you'll never want to rhyme anything again! copyright2001 Lyra Nesius |

You mean to say you write in rhyme?? Only kidding, Larry!!! I feel the same way. I've tried the free verse route but it's just not for me...or maybe I'm just not good enough for it....in either case, we shall continue to part ways and that's fine with me |

Noah, It always helps to have a cheerleader! Thanks Noah. Canuckster, If I am a test case for your theory...there may be trouble ahead! LOL If I sound too frustrated it isn't because of any effort (I've never tried). Just said for fun. Regina, From my idol of free verse! Thanks. Karen, You are so kind I keep thinking I'm in debt. Mushy, I am unworthy of such praise! But...Okay I'll accept it. |

Lauren, I wondered who'd be the double darer. More accurately I was hoping I got away with that. It may not be my first free verse but it will be my first free verse poem. And hey, from my other idol of free verse that's a pretty easy double dare. So you owe me. Floria, Don't you dare. We need to carry the torch of rhyme. It is our burden to bear...hehehe! Lyra, ROTFL Geesh, I love your humor! You're the best. I'm sure that included the praise. LOL I like your theory a lot and the NY Pizza is too funny. Magnus, Buddy...I'm so glad you're in these pages! Thanks for the feedback. Balladeer, Help! I got tagged with a double dare. Just when I was falling madly in love with writing poetry I got stuck with a chore. Geesh! |

LOL, Larry, I read almost everything you post. Even a grocery list would somehow be funny or interesting. Rhyme can be sublime or it can be funny. Free verse can flow smoother than honey, (or grungy and ugly as muddy waters.) Your post-its usually please us all. So pick up the quill & let those words fall! |

Larry, Check out some of Marties' works ( If you haven't already ). Spoken as a compulsive/obsessive rhymer, she can still make me wish to write free. BTW , liked the poem. Doc |

Midnitesun, Dear friend...always watch for your posts and resonses. You have been way too busy lately...elsewhere! Thanks a bunch. Doc, Thanks for the tip...'cause you know I need some good tutoring! Martie, I can only be me...but...me could always change a little too! Not that I would ever put any pressure on you, but Doc said... |
