Don’t Tell the Sun Don’t tell the sun that it is winter. Let it dry to brittle the wood stacked for the hearth, seep into the shiver of my curling flannel, open across the carpet where the dog lolls bleached and sighing. Tomorrow, or next week in drizzle will be time enough to mention cold and to watch the breath of it capture words, to layer the fleece around a love until just a peek of eye and nose are exposed. Tomorrow, we’ll sit all toasty with bare feet open to flame crackling into the room with the green plants all gay and greenly windowed and a concerto melting into the hot soup. Don’t tell the sun that it is winter for there is still time for cold ham and tomatoes, green olives that bite and picnic tables at last dry of summer’s wine with swim-dipped friends, there will be time for hot tea and mittens tomorrow. I think the thing that captures me most about your poetry is its quietness ... some poetry screams at you, insisting to be heard, but yours only whispers. So I always hush a moment to hear what it says. ~Linda |

Poetry at it's finest...this one warms the heart. Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |

Oh Martie, This is exquisite. Going in my library!! Chris Life is not measured by breaths you take, but by moments that take your breath away. |

Martie this is so wonderful. I love this line "Don’t tell the sun that it is winter" this morning I told my husband, It is just like spring, the sun is out, it is mild out, two hours later, it is snowing like crazy.. I loved this poem. floria |
