I wrote this while on a pier in the middle of the ocean not long ago. I cannot swim, so going out in the middle of the water is both fearful and awsome. An experience long ago has made me respect and love the sea. Excuse the tears.

The Power of The Sea

Overlooking the ocean
I cry tears of sorrow
Laugh tears of joy
The power of the ocean makes my knees tremble
And my heart shutter
I am afraid but courageous
I spit in the waters to show my contempt
I drop tears to show my love
Oh! Great waters
Why hurt me so?
With wet dreams and reality
That chills my soul
Do you want me that badly?
Must I dive to my death?
To appease your heart
Tell me?
It is just you and I
Master and slave
But who is the master?
When my time comes
I will smile at death
As your hate drowns me
My fear I will face
Overcoming that which seeks to control me
So, here I am
Preparing my soul
For your beckon call
As I am returned
To the place of my birth

Marcel did I ever relate to this. My hubby and I were viewing lighthouses , and we were walking out on a strip of narrow land into the water, and I cannot swim either, and I could not go any further, I know just what you speak of. Yet I love the water. Wonderful poem you have written of feelings we all have with life and fear. great write. floria

Perhaps in an earlier life you experienced death by drowning...this is a good write, and the feel of respectful fear is potent...
