~* In The Forest Glen *~

for Willow

I often go among the giant shadows
of the forest trees to purge my pain.
Walking among those ancient giants
so tangled in long lost memories is calming.
Somehow the lush greens wash over my tired heart
renewing my mind, body and spirit.
For there I am so small, in all that wonder.
As I weave through the intricate canopy
of filtered light above, a beam of sunlight
dances across my feet as I tiptoe lightly
so as not to disturb the gentle ray’s path.
Waterfalls and river sounds cleanse my spirit
as I purge toxic thoughts that hold me hostage.
The metronome of my heart slows against my will
to an acceptance of life and my surroundings.
I stand still, hoping to catch a wisp of her far off song
for I know she is dancing here somewhere in the breeze.
I hearing only disjointed vignettes of some lyric
playing off my mind that is hidden in the wind.
Then silence whispers in the wind like a loud shout.
I feel my sorrow draining to the earth, water, and sky.
The silent whispers become stark epiphanies
overtaking and calming my chaotic emotions.
My senses awaken, as I smell the musty aroma
and my hand reaches to entwine in the tendrils
of the forest ribbons that tie her hair in a bow.
I surrender completely to the scent of the trees,
the sounds of silence, and the gentle rush of the river.
Soon the subtle wind’s song becomes a symphony.
So very poignant are the lyrics to the song it plays
that my eyes fill with tears of the knowing,
as I see the tears it wrings from moss on stones.
I begin to echo Nature’s tranquil song of peace
with a lyrical rise and fall of my own soft voice.
Resonating off the timbers surrounding me
as I sing louder, they become a finely tuned choir.
My soul once more elevates above this scene
as I need far more clarity in which to see her.
There she is lying so still in slight water’s ripple.
I sense she is smiling and inhaling the last few notes
of the Celtic forest song I sang just for her.
Suddenly against my will a slight wind’s ripple
sends her back to where she belongs.
I stroke the water wishing her back,
She is gone again, but she will reappear
next Sunday at the symphony in the forest glen.

Breathtaking and refreshing. I was very impressed with the imagination and visions this poem expressed.  By far one of the best I have read.  Thank you for sharing this part of yourself.  Peace

Oh...you have outdone yourself here! I, too, am getting to a healing place where I realize that my loved ones are not "gone" but now a part of everything. Beautifully written! (and doesn't that idea make you appreciate everything so much more?)

Wonderful Sharon! HUGS.

This is graciously beautiful, and I enjoyed meeting you on this walk to visit with those who have touched our lives, for while you visited with Willow, I visited with mine...

and you know what?  As you and I linked arms to walk away...they all gathered hands...

a most beautiful meeting, on both sides...

I want to sincerely thank each of you for reading this writing about a friend of mine that was important to me during her life, and still is as she  lives in everything alive that I see around me.

Sharon, I cannot imagine a more loving tribute to a friend than the one I just read. My only regret in reading is that I did not have the chance to meet your Willow while she gracefully danced in this realm. But somehow, I feel I know her, through your poetry. Thank you so much for sharing a memory of this precious friendship. This, in particular, captured my heart:
"As I weave through the intricate canopy
of filtered light above, a beam of sunlight
dances across my feet as I tiptoe lightly
so as not to disturb the gentle ray’s path.
Waterfalls and river sounds cleanse my spirit
as I purge toxic thoughts that hold me hostage"

This pensive tone touched me deeply... It is a mourful cry of the heart. You sound so lonely and destitute. I think that your poetry keeps you very close to Willow... and she inspires you to write so artfully...
I know she is proud of you and wishes that you would smile and be happy.... I don't think she would want you to miss her so much that you deprive yourself of the wonderful memories... Keep writing and sharing.
((((hugs))) and love Maggie ((~.~))

Midnitesun ~ It is I who thanks you and everyone for their understanding and patience at these writings, as I must write them for a while longer.  Thank you for reading and sharing.

Maggie ~ I am over the sadness, and finding a place for the loss I think.  I smile as I feel her around me in memories now but thank you for your concern and for sharing this piece with me.

What a beautiful tribute you have written!! I think many of us turn to nature's bounty when our souls have cried themselves into a barren desert... our voices joined your song. *S* Spectacular!

This whole work of art is just absolutely wonderful. To find such peace within loss is a special gift. Again, I applaude this great work of art..which by the way I read three times!

I trust my soul,
my only goal
is just to "be"
