If I had a heart shaped box
on Valentine's Day I'd put you in.
I'd give to you a special gift
and wear your charm around my wrist.

I'd wrap you in the prettiest paper
and tie you up with satin ribbons.
I'd leave for you some chocolate candy
on the card I'd press my lips.

I'd sprinkle glitter to add some sparkle
with shiny sequins I'd adorn.
I'd give to you my softest kiss
to savor in the sweetness.

I'd spray my perfumed pleasure
so that you might breathe me in.
Precarious is this secret gift
tied in bows with satin ribbon.

I'm rather fond of pretty paper
a package that I can't resist.
And when we kiss you taste of candy
melting softly on my lips.

Have no fear my darling dear
some things I'm well aware.
You've added charm onto my bracelet
held tenderly by your clasp.

I dare not place you in box
or try to shape your heart
for surely I would lose you,
and that I can't afford.

Ooh.....this was so special, Blues...
I really loved reading it...could almost taste those chocolates.
My younger son was born at the end of January and that year on Valentine's Day, my late first husband bought me a beautiful heart shaped box of chocolates.  He didn't realize that I couldn't eat chocolate because I was breastfeeding.  So, he and my older son sat and ate them all up, right in front of me.

Blues, I really enjoyed this. I rather like the idea of an 'unwrapped' lover.

This plays very well to the ear and you work your cadence and meter within the poem to make your final lines in each stanza have good impact.

I really like this poem.

it wastes your time AND annoys the pig

Nancy~ It is such a romantic time of year,
and needless to say I'm in the mood for love.
Thanks so much for reading.

Madame C~  Thanks for the heart full of candy.
You really are a sweetie!

BC~ My wisdom has been a long time coming.
If I don't like being boxed in how dare I
try to do it to someone else.
Thank you~

Midnitesun~ You are so funny,
and you're right,
it's what's inside that counts.
To hell with the pretty paper!

Noah~ Thank you for your sweet reply
and for always sharing your love and light.

Dulcinea~ I hope you and your sweetie
have a happy Valentine's day.
Thanks for your kind words.

DS~ Wicked undertones?
You must have me confused with
someone else.  Then again,
It's good to be wicked!
Thanks for the read big fella.

Larry C~ I'm not into handcuffs,
just whips and chains and satin ribbon, tied in double knots.
You can even buy the extra wide ribbon and use it as a blindfold.
Well, you asked for it Larry!  Thanks~

Canuckster~  I'm truly flattered by your compliments.
The rhyme and meter was purely coincidental.
I need to take another look at this
and see what I did right.
Thank you very much!
