to the Queen of Everything
from the Princess of Quite a Lot
I've known you longer than anyone else
since I was a tiny tot

and you've known me even longer
since, I grew in your womb
where I kicked the living daylights
out of you and Daddy too

before I was born on that April day
you envisioned a beautiful child
chubby feet and big blue eyes
a baby so sweet and so mild

but when we were formally introduced
"she's not mine" you said
"she has too much hair
and she's wrinkled and red

take her away, she can't be MY child
that scrawny little creature
with her embryonic features
she looks like something wild

no daughter of mine would look like that
instead, she'd be pretty
and dimpled and fat
and she wouldn't cry
at the drop of a hat

she'd behave like the princess
she's supposed to be
and just where is her crown
is it still inside me?"

this was so cute. Babies look weird when first born, but then after a few days they begin to look sooo adorable!

(giggles) Oh my gosh, this is sooooooooo cute and funny, sweet friend, I know how that must feel; I am young and have never been a parent but I watch others from experience and then after they're born, their beauty becomes appreciated and joyful. (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend, your humor lights these pages! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Lyra darling girl this is utterly utterly wonderful.

I just love this poem of yours. I remember this feeling really well. In fact i told the midwife to take Emma away as she wasn't a proper baby. (She was prem and therefore on the small side)

Wouderful writing darling girl utterly wonderful

I love the subtle humor in this poem. And, you are quite adept at writing this kind of poem...not everyone could write this poem so skillfully and with amazing grace.

Yeah, right! Some of this is believable and all of it is hysterical. Too funny. What was that...25 years ago?

Thanks, Pepper, Joanna and Nancy...
I think all babies look a bit wierd at first....they look a bit "unfinished"
My mother had never seen a newborn before, she didn't know that they came with all of those red wrinkles...so, it was a shock for her.
She expected to see the equivalant of a 3 month old baby.

Noah, Floria, Ivy and Barry......
Thank you for all of those effusive compliments...I don't feel deserving of that much praise.

Thanks Martin...maybe thats why she has always complained so much about me...my crown of barbed wire is probably still giving her heartburn.  Were you born in April also?

Marsha...thank you...I didn't know that you had a daughter...you look so very young in your photo.

Thanks Larry, especially for thinking that this was only 25 years ago.  It is actually a true story, although my mother now denies it.  I know its true because everyone else in my family who was old enough, still remembers it.
