Three sisters grew up on a rich estate
when civil unrest was the local debate
the oldest who was closest to her father
suspected pending changes might be a total bother.

There were aristrocrats and gentlemen in waiting
and a youngest sister all prim for the taking,
the one in the middle was caught in a bind
would it be solid relationships or romantic finds?

Today it is the same when siblings are three
little difficult to get them all on your knee,
so the oldest is apt to follow your instruction
and the youngest is quick to enter discussions

The middle child is between the two spheres
not old enough to assume care of his peers;
not young enough to be her daddy's pet
so life goes on for this family set.

What an interesting poem, Martin. I am a middle child, and could relate somewhat to what you wrote. I have three sisters and two brothers, and a brother who died young. I was literally the middle child.

ecrivan,
I was the middle child TWICE.
I like your story, but I wonder if it doesn't have a deeper meaning.

Oh yes.. The 'middle child' syndrome.. It certainly does mold one's life, doesn't it?.. I'll vouch for that.. You got it right, ecrivan..

You really do pick the most interesting subjects, Martin.  Are you a middle child?
In my family, there are no middle children because everyone has two...so all the kids are either the youngest or the oldest...and of course, that carries it's own set of problems. But the old wive's tale says that things come in threes!
Excellent write!

I enjoyed this..i was the oldest of five with three sisters...one sister being the middle and one the youngest who died at twelve..i noticed my sis who is the middle one has a pattern with men..she chooses men who bring attention to her..for example she is real tall so she will date short men..etc..or when she was real young she liked older men now she is older she likes younger men..ha...etc..

Dear Keth,

Right on "my piano" friend, the hidden truth here is that which Checkov meant to relate
paralleling the incertainess of family roles and the coming of the revolution in his play
The Three Sisters.

I am the youngest of three sisters, so you KNOW I had to check this out. In fact, we are kind of famous around here. They call us the "twisted sisters"-- There was another family on our block with three daughters, they called them "the blister sisters", but we need not get into details of that here! But I ramble--

I enjoyed your take on this, "e"!

Serenity,

I like the 'twist' here in your reply, if you were into the twist then we could have met on a dance floor back then

Victoria,

I think that younger sibs ones are more
experimenting then their older peers who tend to keep some more conversative traits
what do you think?

Madame Chip,

Yes you can get around the problem by having only 2 kids No I am the youngest
