Awaiting Your Embrace

By the time that you read this verse
I’ll be sitting by God’s side
Praying for the strength you’ll need
To help your pain subside
I wrote this poem to tell you dear
The love for you I feel
How every time I held you close
I knew our love was real
These years we’ve spent together
Still treasured in my heart
The joy you brought to me each day
Great moments did impart
It was not my choice to leave
I pray you understand
I still wished many years with you
But life rests in His hands
I went to Him without regrets
I have lived a life of bliss
But whispering my love for you
Is what I’ll truly miss
I know you’ll find it difficult
Without me by your side
Just look deep inside your heart
It’s there I still reside
Each day I’ll be holding you
Comforting your pain
At night I’ll join you in your dreams
Hug you tight again
The times you are in deep despair
And eyes begin to tear
Let memories of us gift you smile
Help rid you of all fear
Even though I’m in heaven now
My love didn’t die
Holding tight to memories sweet
Shared by you and I
Weep not for me for I am safe
In God’s loving grace
Awaiting the reunion of our souls
And your sweet embrace

Will she understand when she sees the dried tear drops on it?  I think this is more than a Keeper, Brian...and I think you'd best print off the numerous responses this is going to bring...

just so she will know that she shared well the heart of a poet...

Brian, I echo everything Karilea said!  This is a part of you...your heart and soul...something that will live on forever....something for your wife to treasure should you depart before her.  Any woman would be overjoyed with a gift such as this. Thank you for sharing this with us.
Very well done poet sir!

This is so sad, Brian...It makes me cry real hard...but it is so beautiful.  I hope that she doesn't have to see it for a very long time.

This is beautiful, you should be very proud of this heartfelt piece!
This is deeply touching and it's going into my library

Brian you are truely amazing, how sweet and thoughtful, how beautiful and how lucky is the one to receive this when your life here is done.

May I ask your permission to also keep this close to forward to my husband and daughters if the time was in need, for I would never be able to write the words the way you have, and they have been written so perfectly.

This is so heartfelt and I felt an incredible love in it. My eyes about misted up reading this (and that is VERY difficult to do). This is a keeper for sure.

I feel a bit like I'm cheating to get a sneak preview of this wonderful piece... That, I'm sure, will make it no less appreciated when the time is nigh... Nicely done..

Hello Brian

How very easily you speak of the great love and devotion you have for you wife.  I began to submit some of my poems to a new site and they asked me who my favourite poet was and I said it was you. And after reading these magical words it's easy to see I made a very wise choice.

Take care.....Sue

When you take that final journey, your words will no doubt bring tears of love, comfort, and peace. This is stunningly beautiful, Brian. But of course I've come to expect nothing less from you than the very best.
