standing on a shadow's lace

Here

there are no ghost
in this house
here
I’m not afraid
no memories
are here
no parade
in masquerade
I might
be alone
but there is
no pretend
here no promises
are broken
on myself
I can depend
and it’s not
as lonely
as you think
it might be
being alone
and lonely
is a difference
you see
you can be
lonely with another
here
I’m just alone
one is by
yourself
the other
cuts you to the bone

I can understand the differences in loneliness that you portray here. Your writing makes it clear. I enjoyed reading this.

Indeed it is Helen.  I know the feeling.  It is how I felt when I wrote White Picket Fence.  Deep writing.  Hugs.

Sometimes we just need to be alone, to reflect on ourselves. But that doesn't necessarily mean we're lonely, right?

1slick_lady - your words are true, as I know them, as you. I never thought anyone else understood one can be alone, yet live in the same house with another.

you can be
lonely with another
here
I’m just alone
one is by
yourself
the other
cuts you to the bone

Amazing words...

Great approach Helen.  I like the conclusion.  You have such a gift for clean endings.

Helen, this really touched my heart.
I've always felt alone, and I've never lived alone.
This packed a huge emotional whallop.

Helen...a ton of truth in this poem...Yes
you certainly can be alone and have someone
there with you...

So much truth to this one Helen.  There are many ways to look at being alone.  Powerful write.

by the grace of God.
