This
is an
after-hour's dance--
I toe the soot
and sway alone
beyond last call
for alcohol
I grab the broom
and lock the door
and etta james
(she waits for me)
faithfully
behind B4--
"At Last..."
(I am awake in sleep)
I draw a ve'-ve'
in the floor...

I brush the green
and blow the ash--
I count the sticks
and look for cracks.
I empty trays of cigarettes--
each butt in testify--regret...

I turn the neon down real low...
at last, at last, I can dance slow.
All the loneliness is gone--
at last, my love has come along.

=======================================

sometimes when I read your work...all I can do is smile and shake my head at just how very cool you write ...and how much of you is in every line ...
you rock me twin...and when youre rhyming...and dancing..few can touch what you do when you do

You speak to me in riddles and you speak to me in rhymes.
My body aches to breathe your breath ... your words keep me alive.

Oh, this is great, I'm going to send this to my best friend, this is his favorite artist and his favorite song!  Thank you Serenity!

An excellent write...that's one of my favourite songs, she had such a sultry, classic jazz voice.  You do her justice!

This is a keeper

Take care,

This is soooo fabulous. I LOVE Etta James and of course seeing the title I jumped right in to read... and wow.. so very worthy of the lady and her music. Your poetry talent is right up there with her singing talent!

Play it again, a voice that could melt ice.

Thank you.

I did want to express my sincere gratitude for knowing that you all appreciate one of my favorite songs as much as I! I want to be etta when I grow up, and I met her once at House of Blues and told her so--and she replied, "That's cool, little baby, but I think you got a pigmentation problem!" (ain't she great?)
