Apropos of nothing
I sit transfixed against a backdrop
of the day gone past
Enmeshed in the stark nudity
of a loneliness so much like
the vapid intensity of a spent
teardrop

Still as the night around me
I sit wrapped in the cocoon
of the fragile minute
Struck by lightning, as it were,
and caught well and truly, immobilized,
in deadly comparison
between the value of lessons learned
and the reality of another lonely
night

Here in the lonely hilltop
of the mother of all dreams,
with the weight of all my desires
pressing on me like the weight
of absent stars...
Desperately willing the minute away
for the next one, barenaked desire,
emptied by loss, brimful with tired
knowing

I am alone
having what i have
but nothing and no one
For now, let it suffice, I pray! A dream
coursing its way down the cheek
of a deepening darkness -- let it be
a different pain, I can't spell hurt no more --
Empty hands grown weary with reaching
aching beyond this forever minute

If only there was someone
If only there was something
Who can see me through
the quality of this night....
