The Red Pain

It begins in her youth, when each month she finds
the awful red pain
uniting her with all womankind

her breasts feel heavy, her skin breaks out
the week before, is almost worse
she wants to scream and shout

the red pain visits every twenty eight days
forty years of suffering, forty years of bloat and pain
the price all women pay, for Eve's sinful ways

when the forty years are over, and the red pain disappears
ironically, she misses it
in her advancing years

its the marker of her womanhood
her salad days, her fertile youth
a reminder that she's aging
and now she has the proof

Thanks Larry, are you one of those men who doesn't mind buying feminine hygeine products?  My husband doesn't mind...but my first husband sure did!

I hate having the red pain with a passion!
It feels like someone is constantly poking at your lower abdomen with a knife!
Larry says he wants to volunteer to go to the store and buy all of us ladies our feminine hygiene needs! LOL

Dear Lyra,
Last year they wanted me to start taking hormones, and it all came back. So I threw the hormones away and said uh-uh. I've already been there, done that, bought the t-shirt. Love your poem.

(big hugggssssss) Being a boy, I cannot relate to the pain, but my heart cries out to all these women who fill this and my heart goes out to them all always! (kiss on cheek) I pray that her pain can ease and she can always enjoy life and joy from here on in, we all love you so much, God Bless You! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Lyra, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Thanks for the reply, Joanna...Larry has volunteered, now we'll have to make sure that he actually does it. LOL

Thanks Floria...I write about life and this is definitely a big part of life for every woman I know.

Kay...Thank you, and don't we wish we all knew nothing about this pain?

Juanita...thanks..but I would rather we didn't even feel it either.

Nan...You are probably better off without them anyway, I never even tried them.
Thanks for your reply

Noah...You are lucky that you don't have to put up with it every month, but thanks for your sympathy.

Interesting thought provoked by this piece with regard to the missing of past "pains" coupled with the passing of time.
