Moth

I've never felt at ease in my own skin,
and, time does not shed these layers of moth,
I never seem to find love within
so, I force myself to pay the cost...
of losing you.
Even the rain offers no cleanse
for a past that's stripped me of wings,
I battle tears I should not shed
immersed in the ache that it brings.
It's not because I don't need you,
not because I don't long for you at night,
it's not that you don't stir the all of me...
it's that I can't be set free
from the inability of a past
that is ignorant of staying left behind.
It's not because I don't want you
it's that I don't want me,
so I simply cease to be
your butterfly...
and, I go back to wishing for "someday soon"
for a prince to bring me fated peace
with a kiss that breathes beautiful release
from my self-inflicted cocoon

Did you read my mind here Missy? While I’ve always felt at ease in my own skin, I can very much relate to what you’re saying in this poem. Good to see you posting again. Haven’t seen you for a while.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

Yanno, sometimes you just have to be a moth, before you can be a butterfly!  Great poem Melissa.

Melis...this is an achingly beautiful write of self confess...and classic Melissa poetry.
So many will relate to this...sometimes we cant love ourselves enough due to things taken away in our past...so we have trouble believing anyone else can love us.
Makes it real hard to to hold on to "happy"
You are a butterfly in the eyes of those who love you...see yourself thru their eyes...
you'll see those wings of grace

You speak to me in riddles and you speak to me in rhymes.
My body aches to breathe your breath ... your words keep me alive.

we are beautiful butterflies, sometimes we just go through the metamorphis (spell) and it's painful but we are all seeking our own freedom in our own way, and we shall have it, that's the struggle of life.....an aching write from you...be well.
