Will You Remember Me

"Will you remember me..."
I whispered, as the ride to nowhere
was filled with memories of yesterday.
"I will remember you..."
I smiled, as I rode on the edge of warmth.

"I'll do what I have to do,
but I don't know how to let you go..."
mind racing as I looked
at the last leaf hanging
on the gnarled tree,
to the right side of the trail.

Stopping to adjust my feelings
that seemed to cause me
some disquieting moments,
I braked often, to snap the view.

Trickling waterfalls
wet my thirst for Springtime.
Gathering stones,
I absorbed their coolness,
fingering their edges
before tossing each
with a wish.

My field of vision escaped time,
darkness falling to my right,
the moon rising in splendor to the left.
Bluish pink skies drawing upon memory,
the softness of your touch.

Creatures of the night
heard the turning
of my wheels pedaling faster,
trying to reach a place of comfort,
as the crispness of the night air
began to bite.

Dwelled for a moment in fear,
emotions rising,
until the surroundings
approached recognition,
and a sigh of relief escaped my lips.
I descended...

In the absence of you,
I arrested my mind, but my body
will always feel the magnetism
of these memories,
and I will remember you...
for many seasons to come.

Maureen, a beautiful reflective write for us this morning!  Much enjoyed the sentiments here...reflective yet with a touch of longing for what was.  Excellent!
*now the song is playing over and over in my head!*

Nancy...thank you, I actually took that ride yesterday in 60 degree weather. It was beautiful out. And  yes, I was listening to Sarah...*s

Alan...mostly the good will be remembered...the bad slip away for me eventually. Thank you.

Larry..history is ok..as long as the bad doesn't repeat itself..*s

It's funny how your whole life will begin to pass  before you ...all those years you thought were happy ones...I spent 5 hours remembering all those moments of joy... all the pleasures I have experienced in the last 30 some years and  finally not a tear was shed..except when I lost my balance  crossing the tracks in the dark and went down, then I cried  because my legs wouldn't let me rise for a few moments... and I feared I would be left there on that wooded trail with no one finding me until morning...then I got up and said "I know I can..I know I can" and  pedaled on home...in pain I might add. *s

thanks
Maureen

Ah, this is one of those poems that you do, that just grab my heart, and I feel like I am living it. You know, that song makes me cry, every time. I guess cause I don't think he will.
Nice work, Maueen.
