I cannot help but wonder what the future holds in store;
It seems past indiscretions tend to haunt me more and more.
Be it guilt, regretted folly? I'm not certain I can say-
But I am haunted by it's presence...No, it never goes away.

There's a spectre in the mirror, hiding just beyond my sight.
And it whispers 'neath my pillow, as I try to sleep at night.
"Fool!", and then I hear the echoes... "O, you fool, you fool, you fool!
If you had only been contented, just to play life by the rules."

But I had to kick the traces, sow my oats, you know the tale-
And to live on sheer emotions means a man is doomed to fail.
Now I trudge on through the darkness, which tends to shroud my mind
Groping, grasping, hoping, that someday real peace I'll find.

But my dreams have turned to nightmares, my sighs have turned to groans
I long to find a resting place, but I fear all hope is gone.
As we wander in the darkness, and our teardrops form their pools-
The spectre goads and mocks us, "You are all a pack of fools!"

To keep on learning is all we need in this Earth school;
Never underrate what we can do, should be a golden rule;
The steps we take to move ahead is but a simple tool;
A block of gold needs to be chiseled to be a perfect jewel.

An emotional write here, Gunslinger...i liked it...No one is a fool, is what i like to say....

Occasionally foolhardy ventures become the stepping stones to greater knowledge... I personally do many foolish things... I like this piece, John...

Very gripping and well written.

No Man is an irretrievable fool for what he has done in the past, if he can learn from it, and correct his path.

never try to teach a pig to sing
it wastes your time AND annoys the pig

(big hugggssssss) Oh John, I know just how you feel; I believe no one is a fool, though we all have times when we mistake and are misunderstood, but once we learn from our mistakes, we can never be fools! (sigh) So well-said, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet John, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
