I was driving down the road today- And watching miles roll by. The sun above was burning holes, Across a clear blue sky... My mind went drifting back I guess- To younger, dumber days... To back when I was punching cows, Out Arizona way. I've seen the Painted Desert- And the wild Mojave, too. The sky a burnished dome of white- Too hot to show it's blue. The Superstition Mountains- The mighty Tonto Rim... Apache ghosts were known to ride, Through evening shadows, dim. I'd like to turn the hands of time, Back to those simple days... When worries never crossed my mind Nor sorrow crossed my ways. But memories mean more to me- Than money, don't you see... For when I ride that mystic range, My heart is wild and free. |
