A Cameo’d Memory He held gently, lightly in old hand, a bas-relief of carving grand a simple thing, remembrance of past, caught up in feelings held fast he felt as if physically starving, but studied this intricate carving in recall as in his memory’s mind came the reason of his soul's unwind... Sound of summer breezes, and harping sea-gulls on wing in flight flew to his mind, as he grasped at the gasping memories of her figure so sweet impaled against the sunset by the sea and her walking, simply walking, in foamy water to her knees She had said “I’m the actress, Lady Leah,” her voice held him in a vice he spoke softly, told her that was nice, but one could see he was enticed and she asked if he would see her performance in that night’s play and he nodded, as he came to learn it would show later on that day Indeed, he said he should, if he could, but indeed he would and with a nod, left her there, sunlight playing in her golden hair as he had to leave, but quickly glanced back as he walked away at her slender stature, and the fine grace which carried her sway Much later that night, entranced was he as he watched as she played but the slightest role although grandly shining throughout for he had fallen, indeed rapidly, in love with the way of her grace and undeniably he had fallen in love from that first sight of her face Although her lines were few, there she was with this lift of fine chin words minimal, but spoke in ringing tone as if directed to him and in clear voice deep, and vast, there from within her appeal she made his lonely heart leap, and he vowed her love to seal Soon her cameo role ended, he rushed backstage and befriended enticing her to come, sit with him, they talked away in light so dim he could not believe his fortune now; as if God had a plan, yet, somehow he felt if he freed her glance he would lose much in this romance Soon she bid him good evening, just before the morning came dewed she vowed she would ever love him, that her love would be always true; she disappeared off into the night, and he to await the morning light never thinking he would face sure hell when came the morning tide’s swell Came soon pinkening of dawn, for his lover’s face he would look upon and found himself down by the pounding sea looking for his Lady Leah he walked the shoreline, and cherished the feeling of this his true love’s desire when a man appeared from the foggy morn, bearing a box, and said “Sire, This came for you, and I ran in haste,” and the man suddenly felt a bile taste rise to his lips, for a fear was soon born, his Lady Leah was gone that morn with trembling hands, he lifted the lid, as down his cheek a tear had slid for inside, soft in silk serene, laid this cameo, of the night’s past dream. c Karilea Rilling Jungel 01.19.01 revised 01.26.02 |

Sunshine, this is a fantastic write. You can see every bit of this. I, for one, have always been entranced by cameos, for my great grandmother on down, have worn one. Throughly enjoyed this. Thank you. Dusty |

YES! This is first on the list, oh Karilea this was absolutely one of your best (okay I know I keep saying that, but this time I really, really mean it) It was flawless, and the story line would melt the coldest heart - please see this gets published somewhere so more may share in this absolutely breathtaking and heartfelt tale. Congratulations dear sister of my heart, this is for sure one of the nicest things I have EVER read! <font face="monotype corsiva">~* Carpe' Diem *~ |

My, oh my!!.....This is so touching....At first...I looked at it and said wow...this is a long one...but then I started reading and almost fell in love with her myself... Reminds me a little of a movie with Christopher Reeves where he goes back in time and meets a young actress...they fall in love....and the spell broken as he is reminded of the year he had come from... I cried like a baby when I watched that... this poem, with the cameo...reminded me of that.. thanx Kari.. |

Karilea, this is such a beautiful love tale. Cameos are cool. I had one once. I wore it to work one day and a co-worker nearly cried, she said it looked just like her grandmother's. Guess you know how I 'lost' that cameo. |

Thank you, everyone, for your kind comments. I still see where some edits need to be made...so with red pen in hand, it will undergo some more refining... but I am so glad you took this little journey with me... |
