One Less Boy

I was there the day you were born,
did I ever tell you that?
I called in ‘sick’ to work
and we let Jeremy stay home from school.
I had asked your mother
for a male
a yellow, tabby
and she delivered!
I even helped
‘cause she was new at it
and kinda scared.
Your brother, JC was born first
then you, then Tiny.
She had some trouble with you
‘cause you were so big.
So I cleaned you up for her.
I was so damn happy
over you, just a little yellow kitten.
You’re gonna meet Tiny
when you get to heaven today,
And you’ll meet Abbie’s sister,
you didn’t know he had a sister did you?
I wish I’d told you this story
along time ago, Dix.

I love you.
Thank you for being my cat.

I’m hesitant to post this and even more so to explain it, but if you’re reading this…looks like I’ve done both.
I wrote it because I told Dixie that I was going to write him something.
This is actually a conversation we had on the way to heaven today.
Whenever I leave the house I always say, ‘See ya later, boys and girls’.
Hence, the title.

This is so nice Duncan, I read part of it and started forming my response in my head, thinking it was a child. then found out it was a cat. Well I am so happy it wasnt a child, but I am also so sorry it was your cat. nice poem. floria

Oh Duncan, I'm so sorry it was bad news...I'd really, really prayed for Dixie to be okay...I'd thought he would be. Do you think he's chasing mice there, in kitty heaven? Does his daddy need some hugs?? I've got lots to spare...and a shoulder.

If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please?

You kept your promise well and touched me deeply at the same time ... the title's explanation was an added gift.
You have my understanding and compassion.
I wrote mine for a gray tiger stripe.
My "Tuna Man" has a new poet friend to lay in the sunbeams with.

Duncan,
Now there is no doubt left about your soft heart. Because it sure ain't your mind! Shed many a tear myself over cats and dogs. Sorry for your loss and stop apologizing. A tender write by a tender man. Cool...

Oh Duncan, so sorry about this. I know it hurts. I would like to refer you to rainbowsbridge.com, its a virtual home for beloved animals who have gone away from us. Its a great place, you can even put up a memorial to your kitty. (I did for my Mia, 3 years ago)It helped me a lot.

(tears fall down my cheeks) This is so very sad, sweet friend, my heart cries out to this tabby and to Dixie and I know right now it is always smiling down upon your boy, smiling and purring with love to have such a good owner! (big hugggssssss) This is so sad, sweet friend, we all love you so much and all our hearts are with you and Dixie! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Duncan, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,

Don't you hate it when that happens?  Well, thanks for coming back and trying, again.  Your comments are most appreciated.

Floria
Thank you for your sympathy.
Sometimes, the two are much the same.

Tracey
Your shoulders seem to be working overtime lately.  Let's keep our fingers crossed that the rest of the winter will be blessedly uneventful.  Thank you, Trace.

Kay
Thank you for thinking so and yes, it is.

Janet Marie
And your response touched me, deeply.  When I buried him, I told him about 'Tuna Man'.  I really did.  Thank you for a bright spot on that day.

kimie
Thank you for your response and sympathy.

Nancy
As always...Thank you!

Startime
I suppose it does.  Thank you for understanding.  When I was a kid, Dr. Doolittle was one of my favorite movies  (the original).  So I talk to animals, though so far...they haven't talked back.  I'll keep trying!

Newell
Thank you very much.

Sandra
I had no idea there was such a place.  Thank you so much.  It does help to know others relate.  Thank you, again.

Noah
Your response brought a smile...Thank you.

amigo
Thank you so much for reading and responding.
It does help to share sometimes.
