An Old Story
By Larry Chadwick

I liked to tell a story,
That involved an old guy.
Liked to tell it often,
As the years kept passing by.

It was time to tell it,
One more time to repeat.
As I got to the part about the old guy,
I paused and started to retreat.

I liked the story still,
But altered how it’s told.
It’s amazing what you think,
When you’re the one that’s old.

Not old... aging like a fine wine...sweeter with time
Youre as young as you feel Larry...and with your, sensitivity, wit and sense of humor...you got lots of time

I'm like a broken record that you can play ...
Repeating (as if it matters) ... everything I say.

JM,
Well the guy was forty-two and I told the story for twenty-two years about the old guy that was 42. Then...well you know. It was then I realized...he never was old. And by the way, those are pretty tall compliments which you may want to reconsider.

Martie,
Keep up that advise and you'll always be right.

I really liked this one, Larry...
It reminds me of the reason why I won't watch the movie "Dr. Zhavigo"
I saw it for the first time, on the first anniversary of my first marriage...in 1966.
In the movie, Rod Steiger was an old man.
Then I saw it again on TV, a couple of years ago...and he looked younger than me.
Thats when I realized that in 1966, if I had looked at the person I am now...I would have thought I was looking at an old lady....
which all goes to show...
Age, like beauty...is in the eye of the beholder.

Lyra,
So...in light of the moral of this little tale. Tell me again why you can't see Dr. Zhivago. And by the way, this beholder thinks you look great!

Wisely said, Larry! Everytime I tell a joke about an old guy I can see my listeners trying to hide a smirk, like "pssst, what the hell's he think HE is???" OUCH!!

Larry darling boy, YOU could never be old, not ever, One of my favourite sayings is you’re only as the woman you’re …… emmmm with. That’s cleaned it up. But truly you’re surely just a spring chicken, you don’t look old to me at all. not in the least

This is wonderful utterly utterly wonderful, YOUR writing is always superb whether you’re writing comedy or love.  Why do I love your writing soooooo much I don’t know I just do it’s so refreshing so full of Joie de vivre YOU are a wonderful writer.

Terrific poem and such a fun read

Love and warm stuff

That is a lovely compliment, Larry...
Everyone tells me I look really young for my years but I know how old this grandma is and if people knew the truth, they would see me as being as old as I really am.
In answer to your question........
In 1966, when I first saw Dr. Zhivago...Rod Steiger was probably younger than I am now...
thats why I can no longer watch that movie.

Sodpossum,
That's one of my lines! LOL Beats the alternative...Thanks.

amigo,
In case you weren't sure...yup. LOL Thanks.

Thanks Mushy,
I'm half way to 104. But you know, I've never felt old or thought of myself as old...but look around. I've seen people my age that make my age look ancient. I've seen people my age that act in ways that make my age look ancient. Not me babe, it's never too late for a good childhood!

Lyra,
So back to your point...if it is in the eye of the beholder, well you get it! And your welcome. Should I say your age, cause I have been paying attention to your posts and think I know! :eeks:

floria,
I'll never be old...ever! LOL
