Sometimes, when dreams take a detour
we get lost within the fork of the road
no right decisions afraid of left turns
we find ourselves on one-way streets
back alleys and a one cop beat
drunk from loneliness, not Sauterne
you feel like a pack of cig’s
with not a single match to burn

remember Lucky Strike cigarettes
back when you were a little kid
hold your foot on the little red pack
“strike me lucky and don’t come back”

maybe we can take a detour
shift the gears in to reverse
to a highway of lost dreams
back to Ken and Barbie days
and dreams of GI Joe
Cinderella and Snow White
and yes..Don’t forget Dumbo

maybe we can get lost
with the Cabbage Patch Kids
upon an ice skating rink
with only dreams of grown up skids

You can complain because roses have thorns, or you can rejoice because thorns have roses.

This one touches me deeply. I am on a memory path today already, not all of which is a pleasant walk. And I remember my dad smoking those un-Lucky Strikes. That's what he called them.

(smiles) Oh my gosh, I know these dreams ever so well too, like when my sister used to have a whole collection of My Little Ponies and Micro Machines and ice cream socials and bowling games, but other than that, I never want to remember myself for so much sorrow and pain fills my head! (kiss on cheek) Soooooooo beautifully penned, sweet friend, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Victoria, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Victoria - Very good.  This is a very creative piece of writing, and it doesn't hurt that you brought me back to my days of playing with GI Joe.  He is truly the greatest american hero among the toys.lol

*sigh* days of innocence when we still believed in fantasy...I think in some ways we wish for those days again...harsh realities can blacken the otherwise loving heart. Amazing poem. I love it. **big hugs** this is just what we all needed.

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

I am so glad I did not miss this. Ha, it pays to drift backwards on blue pages!
First of all, did you have to mention Ken? LOL
The lucky strike memory, wow, I had honestly completely forgotten that. This was fun, the memories. Too bad about all the lost dreams, isn't it. I still think of myself as Snow White, I don't care what they say!

Victoria, this brought back so many memories especially the pain I used to feel when I stepped on my son`s GI Joes.
