I thought a "Supervisor" promotion Would help give me more respect, What it did was give me more attention And perhaps a little less neglect! I thought that such a promotion Would make me feel so fulfilled, I found it to be more demanding-- Trying to subdue the self-willed. I thought this long due promotion Would give me more chance to abound, I was welcome among the ranks As long as I made not a sound! Now I see the lessons for me The truths that underlie life's change, Just because I've got a new title Means not that all's rearranged! If I desire to gain more respect It will not be up to them, It is what I do for myself-- Based on true character within. I am not just here for the filling Like going to the Dentist for repair, In seeking the LORD, and not self-- That fullness of His, I will share! The power I have to do good Is always present within, Thus a promotion I needed not For me to try to begin. So I finally got the Promotion I thought would bring such and such, Now I see why to me it was giv'n-- "Cause I'm one who thinks so much! ![]() [This message has been edited by deleeme (01-20-2002 06:55 AM).] |

Congratulations on the promotion, but I have always suspected those closer to the top get less respect, probably due to jealousy. ~Wynter |

Some real truth in this poem. It's great you have this vehicle to process your thoughts. Every step up in the path for me has served to remind me that people are basically the same at all levels and the respect you crave is ultimately earned, not wrapped up in a position. |

Well, my dear friend, the first thing I want to do is congratulate you! I always have admired your wonderful capacity to look inside and see you own truth and face it honestly. You are so full of God's Love and so surrendered, that it is not surprising that you have come to these conclusions. Beautiful poem, David...Hugs, Ellie A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails. |
