The empty cans wait all forlorn who will come and return them to the local store? On the sidewalk stage of a dusky morn a lady rustles up clothes tattered and torn "Respect this person", cry the containers "she may be awkward but is our savior". So they rush into her hands she is eager to fill this lady has her set route and collecting at dawn is a rough ordeal. Others come at odd hours to select aluminum cans galore, empty cans are a nickle each at the local store. They come by bike, on foot in twos and sift right through the challenge is to beat other seekers...of uncanny fortune... other parceled friends, on a possibly lucrative run and reap the empties one by one. I have enjoyed reading your poetry. It is always well written and expressed, with a variety of interesting themes. One of your better here in my humble opinion. |

Much thanks Tim, I confess that I haven't read many of yours just yet, have read your Elias poem and find that quite appealing! |

This lady should have been in Michigan, Martin...we have 10 cent bottle deposits here. Michigan was the first state to enact the bottle deposit law. Great poem! copyright2002 Lyra Nesius |

Enchantress, Madme Chip I think that the law for returnables was a great idea, here we get only a nickle a return but it still motivates people to bring in their sacks full, Thanks for reading. |
