Birds and Bombs Along the shores of Rawal Lake, sixteen kilometers from Islamabad’s center, a familiar resonance is not heard this year – the songs of migration. A whole bird population has suddenly gone missing, not a one has arrived, and the rare Siberian Crane has veered off course. Ill-timed, this year’s trek of pelicans, ducks flamingos, geese and swans; no rest in embattled wetlands. © 2002 Corinne Bailey |

Corinne, this is such a wonderfully timely piece. It is always the innocents who lose the most in war. The fate of the birds should be a reminder of the fragility of life, and that the consequences of our actions go way beyond anything the media serves up at 6 o'clock. Thank you for this. |

Something I certainly did not think about. I just think about my son migrating safely home from that spot. Fool, said my Muse to me, look in thy heart and write. |

(tears fall down my cheeks) Oh Corrine, this is so sad but true, my heart cries out to all these poor birds and everything else hurt by war! (big hugggssssss) God Bless You, sweet friend, I pray that their migration patterns and habitats can soon return to normal and war can turn to peace! (kiss on cheek) We all love you so much, sweet friend, this is so sad but beautiful! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Corrine, thank you for sharing! May love and light always shine upon you! Love, Noah Eaton |

I think perhaps I lurk too much without replying... so I think I should say that I constantly return to your name... there is a realism to what you write that makes it powerfully impressive. I always anticipate something to push me over a bit, if not knock me flat on my back. And this, this is striking... it makes me think too much... and that, for you, is a very good thing. |
