The hundred greatest poems Ever to be written Were spread out on a page Some were stark and some were smitten With eloquence and rage I searched my poem Inside these few And without regard enlarged the view amongst the pleasures of all the treasures ranking measures something new I stole a line And framed a phrase To think I drew An offhand praise A thousand poems A thousand lives soon be facing A thousand dives For still there was not my name The page grew long And still the same It grew and grew fat with words Inside my mind Was only heard a million finds kindly seen but not by me by any means I searched my name Amongst them all A million billion Standing tall And when they felt Tremendous weight Down they fell To contemplate If thousand trillions Of songs were sung Just let my voice Be only one [This message has been edited by wayoutwalt (edited 11-26-2001).] |
