"The Melting Snowman" He was a merry ole' soul, "Coolpop" was his name. He wore a black cowboy hat, and stood with a cane. He had blue stone eyes, and a bright red grin, He stood big and bold, Every child was his friend. He liked it very, very cold, For that's how he got his name. The children had fun building him, but they expected him to remain the same. Winter comes but once a year, He so enjoyed his stay, Though he knew his time was limited, He enjoyed being part of the childrens play. His biggest fear was of the big orange sun, He knew if it shined down on him it would ruin all his fun. As the grass pops up from beneath the snow, "Coolpop" stares in dismay, For he knows his time is ending and shortly he'd be melting away. He tries so hard to wave goodbye to all of the new friends he had made, But suddenly his arm fell off as he began to wave. He knows the children don't see him, For they're all hard at play, He slowly melts onto the ground, There's nothing that can be done. He has to face his biggest fear, as he lays looking up at the big orange sun. ©Sharon E. Lewis December2000 [This message has been edited by ~lewisone~ (edited 11-24-2001).] |
