My Three Year Old Girl Ran Away! |

My Three Year Old Girl Ran Away! By Larry Chadwick Deep in the heart of my three year old daughter, Burned a rage for something wrong I had done. Little did I understand the agony I had incurred, But I was about to learn of the battle just begun. Sweet, adorable my little girl with a precious face, Determined now daddy’s wrong she must right! She announced to her friends house she would go, It didn’t matter, she would pack and leave tonight. Amazed by the will power of my darling little girl, I helped her pack what she seemed to need the most. And then somberly we said our proper bye byes, Heading into the dark not worried about even a ghost. Her little friend lived clear across our small town, Was it her courage or her pride that kept her going? Daddy watched out the window as she went away, Quietly I slipped outside to see how she was doing. Bravely she carried her suitcase on down the road, Seemingly without any doubts to where she’d go. Without a clue that haunting every step she took, Daddy’s aching heart followed closer than she’d know. Soon rounding the corner and heading up the hill, First one block, two blocks, then three and four. Now ‘twas daddy’s pride that was starting to show, It was her big brave heart that I truly did adore. Past great Grandma’s house she didn’t blink an eye, Rounding yet another corner my little daughter went. Finally a falter in her step her daddy began to detect, It seems that all her anger was finally completely spent. She paused and turned to look around, knowing she was lost, Fear set in and anger completely gone, she stood and cried. From nowhere, daddy scooped her into his loving arms, Knowing he never wanted to leave her again until he died. |

Oh Larry! This is so sweet and tenderly told. Reminds me of my sister when she ran away about the same age...I sat on the front porch and watched as she made it as far as the corner....so small, so brave, so defiant! This one brought back that memory so clear, and I thank you for that! ~hugs, Nancy Lee~ ~I've loved you forever, in lifetimes before.~ |

Startime, How we love our children! They're our babies until we die, I'm sure. Thanks for that. |

OK, so now you made me cry a bit. Can I tell a story? I promise it will be short. I ran away when I was 5. I didn't want to go alone, so I made my 4 yr old sis come with me. We went all the way to Aunt Millie's house. We were there for two or three days. I had to get on my knees and beg to come home, promising I would do whatever I was told, forevermore. I liked your story better. Can we trade? Just kidding, your kid is a very lucky little girl. |

My gosh - What a brave and gutsy little one... Yep parenthood changes us for eternity - Would that we could ALWAYS scoop them up and solve their problems with a hug. These are truly lovely words, Larry... |

Love this...brings back the memory of my running away for some indiscretion of my mother's... when I got to the door with my knapsack, she was waiting for me...with a packed lunch. |

Reminds me of the times I spend with one of my friends that has a four year old daughter...I notice how quick she panics if she loses sight of her dad...right away she ask "Where's my dad?" James |
