Christmas Shells

by Michael

Measured footsteps,
measured time
upon the ocean sands.
Through eyes of pain
the world is viewed anew.

A seagull with one leg,
an egret with one foot,
Yet both thrive,
moving on, as they must,
viewing the world anew.

Shells are thrown onto shore
by receding tides.
Now empty,
they once contained
life.
Their time of living,
long since gone.

Sand,
once living organisms,
now shells that have been crushed,
ground into tiny grains.
I walk the shore
in search of solace,
stepping on trillions of lives long past.

Like a child,
I sit in the sand,
dig a hole
and watch as if fills with water.

It is Christmas day.
I came to collect Christmas shells,
small gifts from the sea,
to decorate my writing desk,
but more than that,

I came to collect me.

Looking at the surf,
I see sandpipers racing,
just out of reach from foam and spray.

The tide returns,
the day begins to wane,

I breathe each breath anew.

Hey you, have you been peeking in my window? Laughing, because I hang seashells on my xmas tree! (I figured I had 'em everyplace else, why not there too?) Loved this one!

Applause from a fellow poet and seashell collector!

*sigh* I see a lone figure walking the beach and breathing in the serenity of spirit he gets there. Absolutely fantastic. I was able to absorb some of the serenity from your words. **hugs**

Love I leave with you whether it is in your life now or yet the essense of your dreams.

(smiles) This made me think of the ocean; I long to go live beside there and feel the tides kiss my toes! I hope you had the happiest holidays, sweet friend! (big hugggssssss) We all love you so much, sweet friend! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Michael, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

this is how I feel at the ocean....completely.
my heart is only at home when I'm at the water.

Michael--A perfect place for reflection..and I love the idea of a Christmas shell...ones that catch the eye and hand only on that day.  Peace and love to you, my friend.

I like the truth here, how the sea can help us gather our spirits back.
I feel just the same.

Michael,

Your words are lovely as usual.  I'm so glad you decided to stay.  I would have missed your presence.

Hugs,

well, of course, NO ONE ever leaves here (heh heh) seriously, Michael, I'm glad to see you also.  Keep writing and when you feel drained, take a deep breath and get out in the sunshine, if there is any where you are!
